I was thinking about getting some 35x12.50 super swamper ssr radials. i have read many reviews of this tire and they sound like theyre great for offroading. but are they ok for a daily driver too. I'm worried about tred life. I dont really care about noise. also, they dont come in the 6 ply version for 16 wheels which is what i have so i would have to get the 10 ply. Would that be okay.

IMHO ssr's are the best multi-purpose tire excellent for a dd/wknd warrior when rotated reg I got 40'000+ on them and still got more to get from them

there a great tire, i got around 65k on my last set , and that was on a ext cab ford, and i have about 2k on the ones on my tacoma and i should get better than that out of these.

I love my SSR's, but I wish they could be balanced. They are a Swamper, so they do ride rough.

for balance have them static or plate balanced static balance costs the same as a reg balance but plate balance costs around $30 I used static balance because I have access but mine were worn down evenly

Did you guys have weights on both the inside and outside of your wheels when they were balanced? Discount Tire told me the only way for them to balance them would be to put weights on the outside as well.

yes we're serious I put the ssr's on at 37,000 and removed them at 93,000 maintenance is crucial though you have to rotate them reguarly and even have them re-balanced at some point (static balanced) the weights are only on the inside of rim I have complete access to lifts and machines so it was just time involved for me but well worth it

What do you mean by static balancing. i'm assuming it's not spin computer balancing. Is this the old bulbbalancing method? If that's the case then i'll stop in Harbor Frieght and pick up a bubble balancer after i get the tires.
I'm close to building me a new house with a nice garage so i'll have a place to work on little maintance stuff like roataion and balancing.
thanks for the info fellas. SSRs are BY FAR the most awesome looking street worthy tires..........just the wear patterns i'm hearing about have me leary. I cant afford to put that kinda cash into a tire then a year later have to buy a whole new set.............i do 20k plus miles a year......lots of highway miles......will change when i get the house built though. Drive to work will go from 36 miles to less than 5 ;D
thanks again for the information.

yeah SSrs are fine. watch the sidewalls they are just as bad as BFGs. and they are HEAVY. my worn 35 ssrs weighed more then my new MTRs and i can tell u its not in trhe sidewall

how did you come up with that the BFG are only 3 ply and the ssr's are a 6 ply I was running the ssr's at 5 to15 psi the bfg's I cant go below 12 really about 15psi and on top of that I ran the ssr's with a 6in gash for 35,000 miles no problem the ssr's are far superior than the bfg's I've tested both now and will stand behind the ssr's I'm embarrassed that I even bothered with the bfg's I should have compared the baja claws instead the only thing I like about the bfg's is they did perform well on washouts

i have seen just as many SSRs with rips in the sidewalls as BFGs. the sidewalls are THIN. plus they chunk pretty bad. my buddy lost 18 lugs on a set of tires in one trip.

you have to make a tradeoff somewhere. the SX may be a better suited tire for rockcrawling. I'm gonna be mostly highway queen and the trails i will ride will me mosty clay mud in West Virginia. It'll be tough to find a better tire from what i read then the SSR.

if i was goin to make a trade off i would want a tire that wouldnt lose its lugs. The SX is designed to be one of the toughest tires out there. as far as the SSRs almost everyone that has had them that i know of has not gone back to them. like i said earlier i have seen many of them with sidewal gashes. oh yeah they are a 6 ply on the treadwidth and 4 on the sidewall.

My buddy blew one out on his j**p last summer. The hole in the sidewall was about the size of my hand.

what were the cirrcumstances behind you buddy blowing one out?
My buddy blew one out too.......at least he thinks they were ssr but i'm pretty sure they we're just TSL radials......but it was his fault totally. He was running a 14.5 on a 8" rim at extremely low air pressure......the tires were bald and had not been rotated properly....
Alot of people say tire XXXX sucks but have no personal experiance with or didn't maintain them properly......
just my thought Boondock

We were at Badlands. He was runnign 35 12.50 15's with 15 psi. We were climbing up a hill that was kind of rocky. At the top ther was a tree to one side with a small rock next to it. Well his buddies dumb girlfriend was spottin for him. He went haulin ass up the hill and wenn he got to the top he slid to the one side and hit the rock and ther went the sidewall. Well he had to back down the hill the tire was the front driverside. When he got towards the bottom his rear passenger tire rubbed a little tree and it broke the bead loose so he had to pull forward real quick. 15 psi dont take long to leak out. So we had to put his tiny spare on and limp it back to the club house.
