what's the biggest spare tire I can fit under my truck. it's an 1988 long wheel base 4x4. I have 35X12.50 on my truck. I have the standard spare tire on it now. Somebody told me a 33X9.50 would work.

Either way I would get a spare that's also a 35....no matter if it fits under your truck or not.

yeah, I know that would be the best thing, but I need something that will fit under my truck. Because, if I kept my spare in the back of my bed somebody would steal it...

realistically, have someone weld a piece of threaded rod to a piece of plate steel. paint it.bolt it to the bed floor.have the same guy weld a nut to a piece of flat stock(bend it into a wing).weld another round(or close)piece of plate to the other side of nut(with hole in center for rod). hey, you just made a tire rack for $75 less than others would "charge" you. you may fit a 32 or narrow 33 under the truck. you will not ever want to put it in or take it out. waaaaaay to heavy a tire to deal with upside down,on your back in the sun or in the rain and mud. my spare sits in my garage until I go more than 10 miles from home(or wheelin close) otherwise, I just hang free in the breeze.
you might(in an old school junkyard) be able to find one of those 70's front bumber spare tire mounts(they prob still sell them through JC Whitney) for that "retro" look!
PS: under truck spare assumes no trailer hitch!!!#nosmileys

its not that bad to get the spare off from under the truck. i had my 33x12.5 under there for the longest time and when i needed to use it it wasnt bad at all to get it down

no offense..... but, you do live in sacramento buddy. I'll gladly give you a dollar(4-shiny quarters) to lay on your back, right now, under my truck, in 4'' of slush, and "pull my spare". I'd even unbolt my hitch, so I could actually put it there for you. well, I'd need 6-months notice, so the "rust"could set in first. really, I only give advice from experience. (assuming you are too) notice, this kid's filled out no profile or info about himself, his truck or his location..... no offense intended! just advice for someone in the "real" snow belts.

I was in 6in of snow last weekend 23 degrees and went outside just to see if my 33 in spare tire would fit in the stock spare location
I took off the spare tire winch thingy and put a long bolt through the hole for the winch thingy that was there and ratched the 33x12.50 up to the frame by myself on the side of a hill
PS i have 35s with a 3in body lift and a 2.5in suspension lift
Also i am a motorcycle rider who doesnt mind getting dirty I needed the back of my bed for motorcycles

i know this has nothing to do with your situation but i thought i would throw in my .02 worth.for a real cheap way to mount a large spare as long as you dont need the bed space take and unwind the chain all the way out disconnecting in from the mount, drill a hole in the bed directly over the mount and feed the chain down through the hole and tighten your spare down.works great as long as you dont mind it being in the way.

DRew oh yeah on my profile and what i drive its not filled out cuz i have a pretty good feeling people are surfing the boards lookin for trucks to pick up(steal) u want to know where i live PM me maybe ill send a pic of my truck

Ever thought of finding or fabbing a rear swinging mount for your spare? I've seen them before (I think a truck in the gallery has one), and it seems like a good compromise.
Just a thought...
