If I run 35x12.50x15 or 35x15x15, then is it pretty much guaranteed I will break stuff in the IFS? I do not rock crawl. I ride in the swamps of south Arkansas/Louisiana, and I ride a little on trails in the mountains. I want to run 35's b/c of the deep gumbo mud.

depends on the motor and gearing. the 4cyl stock or slightly modified will have a hard time breaking anything. It all depends... where are you getting the clearance from? higher/steeper front cv angles will put more wear and stress on the joints.(a cv inline hor/vert is the strongest. steeper angle(susp.lift plus turned wheel)is the weakest(lowest amount of applied joint surface area). your worst enemy is a spinning tire in mud that suddenly gets traction. that's what will break stuff on the ifs(and rear too). the 4cyl isn't going to spin 35''s all too well. nothing like an acid test.... I'm game.

3 inch body lift; 3 inch suspension lift. I have a 99 tacoma. I am gearing the front and rear 4.88. thanks

I hope not, I just got my truck lifted and bigger tires and gears. I put 5.29 front and rear with a detroit truetrac in the rear. I love this setup, but I have a 4 cycle, with a 6v i heard run 4.88 gears. I have 35'' tires. I have a 1988 4x4 ifs. I only use my truck for hunting and weekend around town.

I don't mean to insinuate that the 4cyl w/35's is a breakage waiting to happen. It is just pushing the envelope of the drivetrains capacity. the toy Taco and Std PU drivetrain is still as strong as (and better designed) than a std chev 1/2 ton. some can run 33's and 35's and never have any problems. and the same breakage possibilities are there. spinning any tire fast and grabbing traction suddenly is bad, whether stock or heavily modified. Ill glady accept donated (delivered)vehicles to demonstrate how to break stuff.

Just remember that not all tires are created equal! Interco Swampers are the truest to size(a 35x12.5 is really 35 inches tall mounted and on the truck). But a 35x12.5 BFG M/T is only 32.5 inches tall mounted on the truck. Moral of the story MAKE SURE YOU CAN CLEAR THE TIRE and COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES!

Ive got a 90 Toy V6 w/35's and i F'd my front end in no time.. if your really hooking up in the mud your front end will be toast!

my bfg m/t's are supposed to be 33" but they barely measure 31.5 with 5,000 miles on them and 94cny is correct spinning wheels and then the sudden grab is serious damaged waiting to happen I've seen torque converters blow into pieces rear axle remove themselves from the vehicle all kinds of carnage can happen the 4:88's will def help you out but def would NOT go with the 15" wide too much weight but the 35x12.5x15 should be o.k. your just gonna be replaceing tie rod ends ,cv's more frequently I'm getting the truxxus 34x12.5x15 m/t for my rig and you can read my set-up below

my buddy has 39" iroks on an ifs toyota with 5.29 gears and takes it easy... seems to do fine... just depends how hard you are on your truck...

he must take it REAL easy there is no way i would run 39.5 iroks on IFS i have a dana 44 and i am skurred.

you would be surprised... he does some amazing rock crawling... one thing that helps him out is an auto trans... no i wouldnt recomend it either, but i was just saying that he does it and likes it... he does some ruff stuff but has a light foot...

4" BDS suspension, 3" body and 35" MTR's. No gears, no locker, no motor work. Drove it three hours on NYS thruway to go to an event, and mudded it there, and drove it home. The following month, I drove it an hour north, beat it up all day, and drove it home. And lots of little wheeling trips in between. Keep an eye on things, listen to the truck, and you will be fine. We all know that this hobby is not cheap, and breakage is part of the game. After you wheel, get under it and tighten everything up, and HAVE FUN!!! Just MO.

remember this to every tire pulls different.you can use a less adgresive tire like a ground hawg or gumbo.you would be suprise how much that will make a diff. on braking things.
