hey all, Im going to order some tires on friday. I allready have an order set to go for some ltbs 31 10.5 15 on some rock crawler rims. I drive my truck once or twice a week, and a few 5 hr trips on vacation possibly. thats it, my truck is lucky if it sees 5000 miles a year on pavement. so heres my dillemma do i want a bias ply tire, and why should i replace my stock rims that are in great condition. anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably priced radial that is nice and aggressive. Im assuming that i cant go more than 31 10.5 15 for the size. any information is greatly appreciated. Ethan

they're a lot of choices out there you say they won't see more than 5000 miles on pavement but how much wheeling do you do? what kind of terrain is it? you do not have to replace your rims for the size that you have in mind they will fit your factory ones

if you wanted a radial mud tire that is aggressive, then the nitto mud grapplers would be the way to go or maybe the walmart super sports, but didn't you just say that you dont have to drive on the street very much? I would definetly get the ltbs because they will hall a$$ off road and are cheaper

Well, with the mix of highway, snow, unimproved road driving that i do (the pickup is my daily driver), I went with the BFG All Terrain KOs and have been happy so far with the all around performance and price paid. It might not be stellar in any one area, but it has been a good all around performer for me.

The only problem with Bias ply tires is that they aquire flat spots very fast! And if you dont drive them but once a week or so, you will have a very rough ride until the tire warms up. But since you said you are looking for a 31 im sure the flat spot issue wont be as bad as it would be on a larger tire.
I dont see why you should have to replace your stock rims if you like them just keep them. I assume they are the spoked steel wheels that most TPU's came with. You can always sand blast them and paint them before you put your new tires on.
With a slight torsion bar crank you and fit 32x11.50's stock! You could fit a 33 if you wanted to do some trimming!
Basically you need to look at the scenario you will be putting your truck up against and decide from there. I always say write it all out on paper and you will see what will make sense. The LTB's are a very strong tire. Generally Bias ply tires have a stronger sidewall then a radial tire. If you do a lot of rock crawling or rut running i would say a bias ply tire will withstand more abuse. If you plan on doing a little bit of everything i would go with a medium aggressive mud terrain. There are all sorts of brands to choose from. I have always been a fan of the walmart tire dept. A great street tire that i used to run on my ranger was called the liberator all terrain,(phenominal tire!) but i have found out recently that they make a mud terrain as well and the prices are extremely affordable! The liberator is generic michelin.
Like i said, put all of your variables on paper and it will all come together.
