Hi, I have an 87 Toyota, with a Straight Axle Swap, and I am looking to get bigger tires...I am thinking 33 or 35's My top three choices are:
1. ProComp MT's 2. BFG MT's 3. MT Baja Radials
Out of those three, what is the best, what would you buy?
I have stock gears now...
I am assuming if I go to 33's then I won't touch the gears, and if I do 35's im going to have to run diff gears???
I have the 4cyl. LC Eng. Street Long Block Engine.
MY OVERALL QUESTION IS:
WHAT SHOULD I DO, 33'S OR 35'S? CONSIDERING, IN THIS ORDER: -POWER -GAS -HAVING TO RE-GEAR
IF I RAN 35'S WHAT GEAR RATIO?
THANKS FOR LOOKING, I'M NEW TO THIS

All 3 are decent tires for mud, but the sidewalls are weak for a rockcrawler.
If you have the clearance and $$, do the 35's and regear to 5.29.

if you just want to look cool on the cheap just go with a 32, they are close to a 33 in height and width, but not as hard to pull, and you wont have to lift it usually.

Good call rock...
Save the money for the right combo to fit your needs. No reason to waste money on 33, 35's or larger without a proper re-gear.
Economy/Milage? You've graduated from those concerns for the DD. Now it should be performance/gearing/traction.

I do use this truck as a daily driver, and i dont care so much about the gas mileage, I have 31's on it now, and it could fit 35's, the lift is there. Getting 32's is not going to happen...I only use this truck around a small town in montana, so I want to have some fun as soon as the pavement ends. I use the truck to drive around, and then do some trials on the weekend and whatnot, I like to get in the mud, and i like the rocks...
so if none of those tires are good, then what? I want to get 35's on it, so I am going to re-gear, I have my rims, I just need the tires now...(or in the spring when I can afford it)

Ive been happy with my 37 MTRs. Decent on road, decent in the mud and great in the rocks. Next tires i buy will be IROCs though.

if you are even slightly interested in mud and rocks, and don't care about the mileage you get, swampers will be the best choice

I would go with the 34 9.50-15 swamper LTB. THey are cheap, have thick sidewalls and are good all around.

get some 35's and throw in some 5.29's and never look back. do you have crossover steering? it would be a good idea with 35's. another thing you might want to upgrade your birfs because there's nothing worse than your dd being broke because you wanted to save a couple bucks.

bfg's are good tires. I have 33 BFG's on my yoat, it's a 4 banger also. As far as power goes: I'm still pretty zippy around town and I drove to reno last month from sacramento area and pulled 75-80 the whole way. It gets gutless when you're doing hill climbs in 4low. I hit hills in 2nd gear with pretty high rpms, the power decreases immedietly and sometimes I don't make it. If it was regeared I believe it would. My reccomendation for regearind with 33's is to get 4:88's. If you plan on stepping it up to 35's in the future go with 5:29's.

if it was me, i would run 4:88 gears and 35 bfgs, i have had bfgs before and they are the best. but also there is a time in everyman's life when he needs to own a set of boggers. I have had friends run 5:29 gears on yotas with 35's or 36's and destroy them, pinion is too small.
