I know the two (big lugs, quiet tire) generally don't go together, but if you've experienced certain tires either noisy or quiet, what do you think? radials only.

I run Swamper SSr's I love'em they look very aggressive and perform great offroad as long as your not playing on a lot of sharp rock they're fine. They are a little pricey but when proper air pressure and regular rotation they last a long time I got over 60,000 miles on my last set and they perform great in bad weather conditions. Mickey Thompson Baja Claws are real nice as well and from what folks are saying they handle on the road very well. Then you always have the traditional Swampers Boggers,Thornbirds,TSL's and the newer Iroc radials or bias ply but I don't know anything about the Irocs

Personally, so far, the BFG MT km's have been my favorite for all-around wheeling, quality, balancing, low noise, wear & price. Got over 40K+ miles on them before they were down to about 40-45% tread & started to chunk out. Now I'm working on some Mickey Thompson Baja Claws (radials) - decent price, excellent quality - look good with 3K+ on them already. Noisier on the street than the BFG's, but not overly so & mostly when stopping/slowing down, starting up, & great on the trail. They're a directional tire & I do carry a full-sized non-directional spare (new BFG MT). To this point, I like them a lot.
On the other 2 rigs, we've tried in the past (& are using now) Interco Super Swamper TSL's (bias, not radial & mounted on the Super Zuki - tough ride, but they're not radial, good wear for daily driver tho - balance OK, awesome on the trail & not too noisy), Interco Truxus (shitty tire, used on 2002 Taco - hard to balance, wear quick, OK on trail, quiet on street - can't recommend tho) & ProComp Xterrains - about the same as the MT Claws for manners & currently mounted on Taco.
I've only heard bad things about Thornbirds, but have no 1st hand experience with them - just know peeps that have. If you want noise, go with Boggers. LOL!!!

I had the 37/13.5/16 m/t radial claws they were very quite and worked and wore very well.

I've run Pro-comp MT's for almost 2yrs. 33x12.5x15 Ride great. Pricing?? depends. Balance well. Great traction in mud/snow/rain/dry. (siped Mud tire) A little noisy, but no where near a SS. Wear is good-great I have 85% tread left from new and 20k HARD miles.

I disagree with Muddin Mama completely on the Trxus from Interco. I have had two sets and they both balanced easy and I have put 60,000 miles on both sets and they still have tread. They work awesome on the trail and are very quiet. They seem to outperform the BFG MT and ProComp MT that many of my friends run.

Hey 86michigan4x4! Want 4 more of them? Sitting in our shed. After 8K miles, they were outta there. They wouldn't stay balanced & wore horribly. Maybe we just got a bad batch or something, but I don't think we'll try them again. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Off Topic - quick question: we're planning on hitting up Drummond Island this August (family reunion & we want to have some fun wheeling, too). Been there? Can you offer any info, advice or suggestions for trails & difficulty? We're already ORV licensed for MI - ran around Norway last August (gotta renew this spring). PM me & thanx! (can bring 4 Truxus with us for ya - LOL!!!)

BFG's- great traction, as for noise: They howl a little but nothing to get excited over.

The thin sidewalls on the truxus suck. One of my buddies blew a hole in one that was about the size of my fist. THE tire still had the nipples on it. I laughed. I kept on truckin' on my bald SX's at the time.
