You would be pushing it, if you have bead locks then yes you could but the general rule of thumb any off-roader should know is to NEVER go more than 4" wider than the rim is.

Scott I disagree with you. As any offroader should know, A skinny wheel will hold a bead better than a wide wheel. I have 37x13 Boggers mounted on 8" wide wheels and they are PERFECT( Thats 5" difference). There are TOO many variables that needs to be considered. The size printed on the side wall means very litle to nothing. The ACTUALL measurments are what needs to be considered. The height of the sidewall, the CS measurment, the tread width, the intended use of the tire, and other variables must be considered when choosing a wheel width. I agree, that a 7" wheel is the narroest you would want to go with a 12.50, BUT to say a general rule of thumb is 4" is BS

Wide Tire+Narrow Rim= tire popping off of the bead. The tire sidewall would stretch outside the rim to far and cause the tire to come off of the bead. Seen it happen few to many times trust me.

It was hilarious, I once saw a guy try and run nothing in his tires "Without" bead locks. Yeah, you can prolly guess how that turned out.

Scott What was the tire size/ wheel size combo on the setups that you "seen" it happen on? For some reason Id be wiling to bet there is more to the story than wide tires on narrow wheels. Tire height is a determining factor in how wide/narrow of wheel the tire can be mounted on.

They were 37X12.50X15 Trxus M/T's on 15X7 white spoke rims. I have also seen 39.5X15X15 on 15X7 rims break off of the bead.

i have seen 37x12.5 come off a bead on a 10 inch rim. it will happen. from my experience a narrower rim seems to work better on holding a bead. again what do people do with 21 inch wide iroks i know they arent using a 17 inch wide rim maybe a 12 at max

Yeah gotta believe ya on that one. I never thought about that. 21 inch wide Iroks, wow, that is enormous, it would be tough to find a 15"+ wide rim for that.

i can see an issue with like a 15 inch wide tire on a 7 inch wide rim having issues with steering inside the tire when aired down more then anything
