I saw a thread where someone was talking about a ball joint spacer lift for the IFS. Has anyone personally seen these or better yet used them. Seems simple enough. just trying to figure out the down sides of this setup. Thanks

I used a kit that I got from Rockstomper that was supposed to give more articulation by installing some lower bumpstops and a spacer that went between the balljoint and the upper a-arm. The spacer was about a 1/4 thick and came with new longer bolts. It wasn't meant for lifting the vehicle any. It was pretty cheap and I wanted to give it a try. I really didn't notice it help all that much. It is still IFS and is limited anyway.
I haven't heard of a lift using a balljoint spacer. There is a coil spacer lift for Tacomas.

That link is what i was thinking of. Thanks. Does anyone see any down falls to this system. It seems that you would get another 3" of total travel from this set up. The only things the website says could be bad are flexing the CV joints to much and over extending the shocks. Let me know what yall think. Thanks.

I got in on the group buy on yotatech. I should see the spacers in a few weeks. I have much of my front end apart now so figured I would try these.
I was told that the spacers will affect your truck in the same way as a 1.5" torsion bar crank, BUT you won't get the rough ride of the torsion bar crank. The cv's will see more of an angle but if you have manual hubs keep them unlocked until you use 4wd and it shouldn't hurt too bad.
Look in the 86-95 4runner tuck forum for the t-bar crank undo thread. there are links to threads with lots more info.

;D BikeGuy, PLEASE let us know how this works out. I've checked out the info & it SEEMS like a good idea. But it's nice to have a "guinea pig" to see if it actually works. Maybe you can come on our next Sproul run & SHOW us how it works! ;D Later...

Yeah guys I can definitely let you know how it works.
It might be a little while though. Supposedly the spacers are in and will ship during the next week. Right now I don't even have the LCA's on my truck. Once I get new lower ball joints I will get the LCA's on, then I will finish up most of the suspension lift install. Then I plan to try and remove the UCA's, and that's when I will install the spacers. I have new ball joints for them too. I also already have the UBJ bolts already pressed out.
Once all this is done I will be saving up for some new gears so I can install35's. Until then its still 31's with what should be lots of clearance.
Fred, i've seen you mention some wheelin' spots near you. I used to ride mountain bikes in your neck of the woods alot so i'm used to the trip. If you know some mild wheelin spots, and want to see these first hand maybe we can get together when I'm done.
I'll try and snap some pics during the process but I usually find that once i get covered in dirt and grime and get angry at things not going right, pics are the last thing on my mind.

Since it affects the Cv's like a torsion bar crank, I'm guessin it prob wouldnt not be good to add these on top of having a 1inch torsion bar crank?
