There are a lot of possibilities, what exactly are you trying to do ?

if it was me, i would simply pay the $400 to get a 3" lift and have 4 new leaf packs... but he isnt wanting to spend that much money... his springs are completely shot... tried to do the block lift and the pack bowed upwards in the middle of the pack... looking for anything that might possibly be a perfect match, lift or no lift... something stock out of a junkyard...

The rear packs from any 1st gen p/u (79-83) 2WD or 4WD will fit (2WD will give you some lift). Probably any 2nd gen (84-89) too.

i appreciate you trying to help and this may be a stupid question but that is not what i need... i know packs from the same truck will work, but i am sure they will be just as bad as what he has
if the 2nd gen packs will work, will a set from the rear work on the front of the 82...
wondering if any packs from other makes and models will be a direct bolt up for the front and rear of his truck... i have heard some people say that chevy packs will work and others say this or that works... wondering if anyone has ever done anything like this before...

You can use Toy rears up front with a banana shackle (like from BudBuilt) and you have to add more leaves, but they do move the axle forward 2", so you'll need an adjustable draglink and torque rod also.
People also use j**p YJ packs front and rear, and you might want to check out Rodeo rear packs, they might work.
Start measuring the springs on friends, co-workers, etc. vehicles, that's how these things are learned.

Hey there, I have a 88 toyota pu that i converted to a solid axle, I first used the rear springs in the front but those bent within the first day of driving down the road. Then I put another set in and added some more leafs out of a chevy rear leaf pack. they also bent shortly after I installed a 4.3l chevy motor. I then went to a junk yard and just started measuring. I found that the front springs out of an older Jeep Wagoneer (sorry Im not sure the year) they are just a fraction wider than the front toy springs so you might have to get new u bolts but the springs are made to hold up that big old v8 so they wont bend as bad. The ride I have now is great and they seem to have about the same amount of lift as the rear 2nd gen chevy rear spring conversion (im not really sure how much it is but you can find the article on this site i believe) My axle mounts are drilled slightly off center and my mounts on the frame are slightly different (designed for a longer spring) so if you dont mind getting some lift out of the deal and doing a little modifications. the springs cost me 30 bucks. ;D
