OK I just called Toyota and asked them how much stock springs are just for sh!t's and giggles... the guy says "looks like $500 each spring pack" . So that's definitely not going to happen . My question for you guys is where could i get some quality leaf springs that are the same size as stock? I know all the marlin, all pro springs but they are 4 and 5 inch and doesn't look like they would sell just stock springs so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also been doing some reading on how (and correct me if I'm wrong) longer shackles allow the springs to flex out further and help to give the truck a little lift. I'm saving up for the marlin 4" kit and just need some springs to help get the truck off the old stockers; they are starting to bend the other way and theres only about 3 inches from the bump stop to the frame. The rears in front with Chev rear springs sounds pretty good but I'm dead set on getting the marlin kit so fabricating something until then would just be a waste but if you guys could help out on the stock springs and where to get them and maybe a suggestion on how big of shackles to go with that wont over stretch the stock breaks steering drive-lines etc. that'd be great. Thanks Patric

if it was me i would leave it alone. if you are going to fork out the money for a marlin kit than save your money for the kit and just drive the 4runner. now if your springs are broke or keeping you from driving it down the road than ok! just so you know my old 84 truck had a -1 to a -1 1/2 arch on the stock springs. that thing wheeled just fine until i could put a lift on it. as for shackles any thing they sell at all pro, marlin or northwest. normally a few inches longer than stock is the norm. now that i think of it i did put a set of i think rancho add aleafs on my 84 which did help a little. just my $.02 later!

Hey thanks mudwiser for the opinion and information, what you said makes sense and would be a more cost affective approach but i need to get tires and gears (and while thats all apart throw in a Detroit) bought first so I'm not driving around on 235's and a four inch lift . So the lift is going to have to come later. The truck will clear 33's with just a little more lift and then will look and operate better when i can get the lift and put on. So again its going to get leaf springs either way because they are really starting to look bad and if they do break then ill be back in this position just with less time to shop around. So any info to getting springs that are stock size or even a 1 inch, as long as it doesn't stress the existing parts, will help me out. Thanks again man i respect your opinion and it does make total sense but i need to get going with this truck because I'm bad with trying to save up that much money and buy everything at once.

Check JC Whitney, they carry stock replacement springs for modt vehicles. An alternative would be an AAL (add a leaf) to get a little arch back in your current packs along with the lift shackle.

hey thanks for the info I looked there and at summit and they got em but now I'm starting to think mudwisers idea is going to be the better route, the springs are more then what i thought they where gonna be. Since were on the subject i see both you fourwd1 and mudwiser drive 4runners too, in your guy's opinion do you think ill be able to clear 33/12.5 without rubbing? Id like to go just up to 33's but wonder if the tires will rub being that they are so wide, would 10.5 be a better fit?

have you looked at www.customsuspension.com. i think stock front springs will run about $180.00. if you were to go with a 3in body lift you might clear 33/12.5.

You're not going to be able to run 33's without having some suspension and/or body lift.

you could try re-arching the front spring and even adding one leaf per stack to help hold the arch. i would say this should cost less than $100 for the front. give a call to a local spring shop and see if they could this and give you a price. i re-arched a set of chevys and added one spring per stack it was just less than $100. they charged $35.00 for each spring i added. so $70.00 for the two springs and the rest was for the re-arch. so about $30.00 for the re-arch.
i know it's a pain in ass when you don't have the $ to do every thing at one time. i'm trying support and build 4 toyota's. hell it's been a year just trying to get the $ and all the stuff i need for a head job on my runner. hell i have 2 runners and 4 trucks.
if you live closer i would sell you the 3in lift out from under my 83 truck. well just my $.02! if you want any other idea's just let me know. later!
