im just finishing up my 2" body lift from performance accessories and i know it says your supposed to cut your shift levers and add the extensions but i really dont want to (if push comes to shove i will do it) so i tried to put the rubber boot on anyways and it wont stay in any of the gears. any suggestions rather than cutting and adding? thanx

It's probably not the boot itself, rather the opening in the sheetmetal for the shifters is not large enough to allow all the movement needed. A standard problem w/a body lift.

nope its definatly the boot. it shifted fine without it on. i had to grind some of the floor panal away to get the transfer case lever to stay in 4 hi. and when i put the boot on it wouldnt shift. do i realy have to add the extensions?

People have modified the the boot to make it work, I just don't remember how.

I just ended up putting heavy duty transfercase shifter springs on my transfercase. It will no longer pop out of gear, in fact it takes quite a bit of effort to shift it period. I love it. A cheap fix from Trail Gear or Marlin.

P.S. My next biggest problem was that the engine would torque over and slap the transfercase shifter against the sheetmetal. That was a bigger problem that I have hopefully just fixed by chaining my engine down. Can't tell for sure as the truck is once again in pieces in the garage.

If the shifters are hitting each other you can try unbolting one or both of them and flipping them around to where they work best. For fine adjustments you can use a 1"-1 1/2" pipe over the shifter to bend it.
Also some times the middle section on the boot hold down gets in the way just enough with the boot on to pop it out of gear (usually only with 2nd). Just thought I'd throw that in.

ya it seems the boot is just in an awkward position and the rubber is just to stiff. i was thinking of making a cloth one of im just gonna try something else (kinda hard to explain) if it works ill explain and get pictures
