last year i bought a warn x8000i winch from allpro off road. i was out wheeling and cracked the motor case letting water into the winch frying the motor. i called warn and with no probs and only a few quick questions(none could have incriminating) and they mailed me a new motor and caseing right away. they are a great company.

Wow, that's sweet service. Besides that mishap how has the winch performed for you? Still have not got one yet myself and was thinking along the lines of the 8000lb warn. My dad bought an 8274 warn in 1978 for his Dodge and it's still going strong on my bothers YJ, 25 years later.

well i only had about 4 pulls on it and untill water got in it because the case was craked it worked really well. the only thing was amp draw. i had a optima red top and it would still kill my truck and fry the little altenator. i would get a bigger altenator and that would fix the prob. great unit though plenty for the yote

I have a M-8000 Ive only had one problem with it. In the terminal box all the connections were lose from the factory and it fried my optima battery cuz it was draw even more amps than normal. But i tightened those up and got a new battery and havent had a problem since. It pulled me out of a river after i blew my 22R the winch was completely submerged for about half an hour.

This talk of frying batteries and alternators has me afraid to use my winch. I bought the truck with a winch already mounted. It has a newer battery, not an optima or any specialty battery, and I believe the stock alternator. Do I need to replace these parts before I try and pull?
Thanks, Ry-Mo

I used mine for years with a stock electrical set up. If you are doing a long pull, just stop every now and then and let things cool off and you should be fine.

i also am running the stock alternator, but i use a optima yellow top. this seems to make a difference. earlier this week, i took my barrety out and connected my custom winch cradle to a tree to pull the damage out of the side of my truck. i only was using it for about 15 minutes, but since the load was very low, it hardly drained the battery. but later that week i just connected the cradle to a tree, cable to my truck, and used it to pull out 8 ewes. which are a landscaping pine shrub, there root ball is about a mirror image of needles and branches about ground. i had to use a snatch block on that and when it got to the point when it almost stalled the motor, my truck idle went way down, so i'm sure the electrical system was under heavy load.
