I was noticing in my catalogs that mile marker seems to be alot cheaper than warn. There ad says they are military proven. Also are there hub lockers any good?

I built some of their stuff for a while. The new winch mount plates for the hummers in the war They were basic mounting plates. I have never heard bad of them except logicaly when you need a winch you can't run your motor water mud ect something fubard. so why do they run their winches on power steering? got me

Milemarker for years were ONLY Hydraulic Winches. The Humvee Winch is a Hydraulic model.
The Winch asked about is the NEW MileMarker ELECTRIC model>>>>
hope that clears it up to cmillgo's answer.
Also I'm sure their Hubs are good >>>But I've found, that the original Aisin Hubs are nearly indestructable >>>at least on my Zuke >

A freind of mine has one on a blazer. He used it a lot to pull himself up some obstacles. No problems from what I saw.

the hydro winches are slow and dont work if the motor isnt running which sucks if you are on your side or are in a water hole and u might suck water in. From what i have seen the new electric winches arent that great and the hubs suck. keep the stock aisin hubs they are the best. for winches go warn you can find warn M8000s for under 600 bucks shipped to your door everyday of the week

Sorry to get this thread back on the subject I have one of the MM 9K elec winches. Only used it a few times but seems OK. It's not a "high speed" winch like some of the others, but at 1/2 the $$ who cares. Not like I use it everyday. ;D The control is kinda cheesy tho.

High speeds are great for heavy use. Slow speed are just good insurance. I'd rather have a working slow than nothing anyday. Sometimes you just need tat extra "tug" to get you through. That's where this model shines. Not for 45*-80* rock jams. Also, I've only used there chev 1/2 ton hubs. They were OK. They blow up just like everything else, as they should when you overload them. I'd rather blow a hub, than blow a u-joint and ob' the shafts. Stew

the mile marker winches are SOOOOOOOO slow even the electric winches are painfully slow my warn is faster under a full pull then the milemarker is with no load also the connection for the remote is cheesy and likes to come loose.

That's the answer I think he's lookin for. Sounds like you get what you pay for..... In case anyone hasn't noticed, the US military and Gov doesn't always make the best decisions.... By any chance is Milemarker based in Texas???

From what I have experienced with MileMarker's Electric 6000 lb winch it kicks ass, I have used and abused and used and abused it again. I love them because of the abuse they will take. They do pull slow but are very, very durable for the price that is probably why the military chose them, because they need something that will last, and last, and last. Kind of like the Energizer bunny. Hell, I once used my PE6000 to pull a 26 foot RV out of Glendo Resevoir. He was in the water up to his Windshield, but to that story later. Anyways what I am saying is that MileMarker kicks ass and would be a great choice for the money.

MileMarker winches are JUNK.
I had a 12,000LB on my YJ for a while. It stoped working properly after only a handful of pulls. I figured going with the 12k # would be over kill for a Jeep but the winch still didnt hold up. It is true that you get what you pay for. I will buy a WARN next time.

Only thing we agree on is jips. Re: winches-if wiring isn't good, motors burn out--fast. Small wires, bad connections, no relay, not enough batt or alt output=high resistance=voltage drop. Voltage drop=amps go up. High amps=burned out motor windings. Don't matter if it's a $1900 Warn or a $300 Harbor Fright. They all fry. BTW, winch motors and wiring can be submersible(think well and sump pumps). About jips-Wifey loves her lil xj and hasn't broken anything (expensive)-not counting rust. But then, it's only off road when she skids out in the snow. Then I go pull her out with my yota. Only time I'll drive her jip--when my taco is out of gas.
