I found a truck at a salvage yard, the owner said it was a special edition called a Black Thunder. Does anyone know what this is or if it really was a special package
Thanks

in the early 80's, i think it was only for the first generation trucks as far as i know, there was a 'black package'.... i don't know about black thunder, tho. i found a copy of an old ad for the black package and a couple other things..... and a couple others...

4.37 gears, round headlights, and a 20R means that ad was from a 79 or 80.

The truck has a emblem on the dash like this:
Toyota 4x4 Special Edition Kansas City Black Thunder 25/100

The "Thunder" package was a sales gimmick that dealers could add to a truck to charge more without it costing them much. It usually included some lame graphics on the body and the plaque on the inside. My buddy has one and it also came with a factory brush guard and nerf bars. To him the question was...is it worth more? to me, the question was.. will those cheesey graphics come off without leaving an impression in the paint. Long story short, it's a dealer installed option, not a Toyota factory offering. Hence it says 25 of 100 and it came from a Kansas City dealership. They were fooling the feebleminded into thinking it would be worth more. On the other hand, the black package above looks kinda cool.
