This morning we had our first little sleet action, yes, here in texas it doesn't get below 40 until february.....interesting i think.....anyhow driving to school this morning, I was 10 minutes late, not that I didn't leave early enough, but when anything with sleet/ice....traffic goes to an automatic standstill, it's kind of funny I think. Obvioulsy the sleet's melting on contact with the ground, but for some reason people don't understand that concept, they might as well think the roads have 2" of ice on them, it's insane. And when the roads do Ice over(never happened more then once a year in my life time....if it does happen) the city almost completly shuts down, it's amazing. I wish I had a video camera for ya'll northerners so ya'll could have a laugh at us trying to battle what ya'll battle almost every day. But then again.....no rust from road chemicals ;D

its funny what you get used to. Even around here (southern PA) schools close the day BEFORE the snow. BEFORE a single flake has fallen. I can't image what it must be like in a place like Buffalo where they go to school in 2 feet of it.

schools close around here, but I still get to go to work, most we've had this year in one storm was 70cm (2'4" for those south of the border) but that was in December

Here in MS, if we get snow, it's like the end is near. People don't go to work or school and the majority of the population completely forgets how to drive. It's like the Twilight zone. I get out the tow straps and go play boyscout for the day.

Oh man up here in Portland, Oregon if it snows the whole town shuts down and doesnt do a thing till it melts. We just had a snowstorm at the beginning of January and EVERYTHING was closed. My truck made it threw the snow like it was nothing though. It was neat driving around with no one else.

Here in CA I don't think half the people even learned how to drive. When the snow hits the idiots just start to multiply. School only closes if chain control is in about 50% of the bus route. Otherwise they just down drive into the chain controled areas and the parents have the choice of taking their kids to school or not.

Here in TN when it snows hard people tend to freak out too. We actually had a lot of school closings last week due to flooding. It was probably the worst rain I have seen here in 10 years. I pulled a guy out of a 3' deep water hole.

Yeah I should have. It was in a parking lot where the asphault had sunk down making a 100' diameter sink hole. If you don't know it is there, you wouldnt think it was that deep. I didn't think it was that deep till it came to the top of my 36" tires..
