Well an 85 SR5 comes with electrice windows, fancy seats, inclometer, all the gauges, a/c and much more stuff.
An SR5 is basically the "higher" end model.
Like how honda has DX, LX, EX, and SI where SI is the highest model with the most features.

right, but in older trucks the sr5 was the 4 wheel drive truck. this was before the had names. it was either a toyota truck, or a sr5 truck, im pretty sure.
now a days it is an options package for creature comforts.

The truck in question is an 88 4X4, didn't think it was a 4wd specific question so I put in here.

Toyota also had model designations in the 80s, please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the the standard one for the trucks was DX for "deluxe" and then the up-level was the SR5, was also used in the cars (my dad had an '83 Tercel SR5, this may be the 4x4 designation referred to earlier) SR5 was the top of the line for the 4Runner with the exception of a few special edition variants untill the Limited moniker came out. Hope this sheds some light, but like I said, I may be wrong, after all, the oldest I got to be in the 80s was 6.

Yea... SR5 was/is purely an options package - had no correlation to 4x4. And, you're right, most were the DX - only other model was the SR5. Generally, you got upgraded seats, maybe power windows/locks, and an upgraded instrument cluster including tach. There may be some other things like cloth interior, but I don't know if that was specific to the SR5.
Read through the Toyota History on this site. You may be able to get some info there... it has been so long since I read through it, I have forgotten most of it.

;D My 88 SR5 Runner has everything BUT pw/pdl's. Whoever ordered this one did it right! BTW, I've gotten in a bigtime arguement on Ebay w/a guy who claims that, w/o pw&pdl's, you can't have an SR5. ;D ;D ;D Later...

Well that's just BS.
My 84 Runner is an SR5 and it has PW but not PDL.
A base model (DX) can have plenty of "SR5" type upgrades too, but still be a DX (in the 80s at least).

;D You know it, I know it. Some people are under a strange impression. As far as I know, SR5 is a factory designation for upgrades. The actual ones depend on the order. Later...
