yeah, well i finaly commited to tearing down and rebuilding my tired (300,000+ miles) 22RE. Today was the first day of a long weekend, i need to have the engine out and stripped to a short block and head for the guys at EB to take car of on monday. so right now i've got most of the engine wires/hoses, Efi manifold and pulleys off. tomorrows work includes finishing up cleaning the block for removal. here are some pics of the work done today... if you want to see more i could post them here, or you can check my site below....let me know what ya think so far...it's my first engine rebuild. ;D Before the carnage end of the day

One important note is to relocate your fuel filter, and oil filter for ease of changing when your engine is back in and running. I'll post some pics when im done, and the filters are relocated.

naw, EB, the only way to go. 576$ for a new short block, 150$ for rebuilt head, 100 bucks for the rest of the kit, the 900$ in performance parts from LCE...and im still waiting on my header...

damn...i am speechless...started my rebuilt 22re up for the first time with header, new cam, bored throttle body, K&N filtercharger, 40 series flowmaster w/ 2.24" pipe... the sound will make you drop, better then a v-8, clean rumble that makes you listen to the engine instead of the CD playe. incredible for a 4 banger, it would make you take another look when it drives by.

Dope... Great to hear that your rebuild went so well! If you have the time, would you like to do a write up for us? We'd love to read about your experience rebuilding!
Thanks,

whats involved in a write up, what would ya like? i'll gladly give it a shot. i still have to weld some exhuast pipe from the outlet of the muffler to the rear (about 3-4 feet)...right now it is pretty damn loud. heres what i got under the hood as of now: -Rebuilt short block from the guys at EB -Rebuilt head from EB -Fresh gaskets/bearings/pumps -Timing chain kit from EB w/ steel guides -Cam from LCE -Header from LCE -Bored thottle body from LCE -K&N filter charger kit from LCE -Relocated lube oil and fuel filters -Flowmaster 40 series w/ 2.25 exhaust pipe...no more cat, just straight back all the way, and soon to be out the side. here are the final pics of the build. what do you think? relocated fuel/oil filter bolted to the passenger side fender well...easy access to both. ;D you can follow the build from day one at my cardomain site. www.cardomain.com/memberpage/523776/1

that is a super clean engine bay, do you clean it often or did you just get lucky and have a previous owner that actually cared.

a little of both...the original owner before me took good care for about 16 years...then i bought it and take even better care of it. i use some engine brite every now and then, and take a pressure washer to it. when i rebuilt the 22re i washed it like crazy...18 years of road grease can get pretty nasty when your trying to work underneath. i found some places where it was caked about and inch thick...and this stuff will not come off your hands for about a week.
