if you install an air locker or a e-locker you can. but if you install like a lock rite or an aussie locker or detroit you cant really choose when it locks. I installed an aussie locker about a week ago its awesome. go to offroadlockers.com they are 200$ intrductory offer. it installs inside of your stock carrier. a detroit replaces the whole carrier. In normal driving it stays locked but does not really effect anything when you give it gas it will lock. when you coast around corners it will unlock you will hear a click click click. when you give it a little bit of gas when turning it might buck on you ounce in a while depending on how much gas you give it. its well worth th equirks that go along with having a locker.

All of the "auto" type lockers will have some effect on your street driving. I have a lock right and I drive mine on the street. It pops, click, bangs, but you get used to it and learn how to drive it differently. Some lockers are advertised to act less noticable but they are all pretty much the same in my book. You learn not to get off the throttle then on again when going around turns. This makes the locker kick sometimes. Its not a big deal and I have no problems with mine. You just know it is there. It is worth it considering the gains in off road performance.

Sky Manufacturing has used e-lockers advertised on their site for $475. Fully locked like a spool when on, like an open diff when not.
