so, I was wheeling the other day, and I busted my main front oil seal. (pushing the engine to hard...high rpm) oil everywhere, took me 6 quarts of oil to get home, and i was almost dry when I pulled into the garage. I replaced the seal a couple of days ago, but shortly after it busted again! WTF?!? What could possibly be wrong? I took the thing apart, and the gasket was cut in the same place as the old one. Maybe there is a sharp edge somewhere??? any help would be great, as I have a trip this coming up weekend. thanks

How are you installing it?may-be your cutting the seal when you install it??Also if a seal is crooked it will leak and may-be tear ,you could have an internal engine prob, the balancer/hub may be burred or worn-out,they make a wear sleeve to repair it??what engine is it??I haven't had this prob.,butt I'm willing to help if I can?

it's the 22r engine. I haven't noticed anyburrs on the harmonic balancer, but regardless I did buy a speedy sleeve to install. I broke two sleeves trying to install. How do you get those little bitches on? when I install, I lube the gasket with oil all over, so it's dripping off. Then I gently push it into the hole (try not to think too hard about it...) The pulley goes on pretty easily. I wiggle it on back and forth gently until the bolt that holds it on has enough threads to bite down. then I just ratchet it down tight, until i start turning the engine it's so tight. I've looked at the seal, and it doesn't look crooked at all. I would expect the pulley to straighten it out as it gets tightened out with the bolt. maybe i'll just have to give up and take it in...

Those sleeves are really tough sometimes, they usually have a metal dough-nut ring thing 4 installation and if its not just rite, it won't go.It sounds like you are installing the seal OK,I just don't know why it would tear/rip in the same spot??If you try again may-be just take a good look at all the parts,may-be we are missing something??Iv got an old motor in the shed,I will look at, might could tell me something???

I looked at that motor, and I couldn't see anything that would cause it to rip/tear ??sorry...Did you take it to get fixed?
