Here's an explanation of the oil shortage in the US
A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country. Well, there's a very simple answer. Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low. The reason for that is purely geographical.
Our OIL is located in Alaska, Florida, California, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas.......

We still pay less for a gallon of gas then we do for a gallon of milk!! Think about that. And cows are scientificly proven to be the highest air polluters in the world today, even over the automobile!! Think about how much goes into gettin milk...just about nothing...now think about a gallon of gas. Thers a lot of work that goes into a gallon of gas. In all reality we are getting robbed blind here! Oil companies owned by some of our political leaders today are paying the same per barrel of oil as they did over a year ago and they still keep jerkin up the prices! For every dollar it goes up it cost the average american another 10,000 bucks a year extra to live. Everything is ran by petroluem for the most part! All iof the once smaller oil companies are being bought and the larger ones are monopolizing and screwin us over! Its a darn good thing we dont have to pay like 5 bucks a liter like some other countries. But the reason they pay so much is cause its a luxury to drive your car or truck due to the well integrated mass transportation systems that are setup! We once had a great mass transportattion system in our country until GM bought up all the trolly systems around the U.S. and pushed the idea of the automobile so they would profit off of it!

I live in canada, and we pay for gas by the liter, Most of our pricing signs have 3 slots (88.9 cents for example) Since the price hike over one doller (needing a fourth slot to display pricing) most gas stations have had to switch to cardboard signs that can list gas prices of over a doller per litre.
The gas prices have broken the price signs.... funny
PS. NO COFFEE BARONS!!!!! I LIVE OFF THE SHIT!!!

To understand what has been going on with our Oil prices, you have to look back several years. In middle 2002 there were almost 6 million barrels being produced in excess a day. At the same time Venzuelan refineries went on strike and reduced their supplies to the international market. Even after the strike, they were below 900,000 barrels/day production. At the same time in order to deal with lower prices, OPEC set a oil quota to reduce oil production by 2.8 million barrels /day in January and February in 2003. March 2003 we invaded Iraq, Venezuela was getting back into productions but still low, the international economy was strong and demand was up, OPEC still had the quota, and now Iraq added to the shortage. We were once at 6million barrels spare/ day. Now on into 2004-05 we have only ranged into 1million spare/day. This has caused the price to continue to increase. Now you have a Hurricane at the one place where we have a major supply of crude oil to our country, either by refinery or by pipeline to other refineries. Since oil prices are highly volitile, the news of shortages causes the price to go higher in the market. Crude oil traded for $70 a barrel on Aug 30th. With refineries coming online and pipelines once again opening up, prices are going down slowly. Crude is now at $67/barrel. But it is expected to continue to drop as production increases. Say what you want about idiots in washington causing prices to suck right now. I agree there are some big idiots there, but the problem is more of bad timing and a volitile market. Even OPEC knows if they drive the price of oil too high it will hurt them since the US economy will shift to more efficient means. That doesn't mean I like how high it is now. Just some information about why we are where we are. We have been talking about all this in class because im an environmental science major. My professor worked for texico for a long time before goin into the teaching field. We always have debates on this issue especially lately. We went through a few models in class of how profiteering is going on and they dont want us (the public) to know about.
Price per barrel is 70 bucks...divide that by 55gallons and thats what it cost per gallon....then subtract taht from the prices at the pump and thats profit...it costs 1.27 a gallon at their cost...so then you have to refine it and that is the same price as its been for 30 years almost...so then you add .40 to 1.27 which would be 1.67 now take 1.67 from what like 3.40 or so average you get 1.73....and thats their profit per gallon! compared to what it was a few years ago at 0.35 cents profit!! We need to do something!
They say that for every dollar that fuel prices increase the average american will spend an extra $10,000 a year. Everything that we use and rely on today has something to do with or is directly related with petroleum products. Everything from the bed sheets you buy to the plastic bottle you drink from. I wouldnt mind spending 3 bucks a gallon on fuel if i knew it was goin to something better rather then the profiteering of oil companies. If it were a tax that went towards research for better fuels, or helped with problems that are occuring due to the oil industries. I have been a bush supporter for a long time but if you look back at when oil went up in price its been since bush has been in administration. Bush, Cheney, and many other politcal leaders are making millions in this industry. The effects of the rise in fuel prices are hurting the economy and soon a ressession is goin to come into place and thus a struggling America!
