Well, I've finally seen it in person.....
A diesel to Veg oil conversion.
You can read anything, but until you've seen it, it just sounds good. IT IS AMAZING in person.
Yesterday, I sold my Sami to a guy from out of town.
He seemed to know alot about mechanics and little odd idea's. After our deal was closed, we sat and talked about my Toyota for a while, showing him all the little things I've done and plan on doing...Then it was his turn............
He drove a 1981 Volkswagon rabbit diesel.
It was a home built Veg oil conversion.
He got the car for free. It sat dead for 5yrs in a field.
Body was rust and dent free(faided paint)..
Being a "thrifty" guy, he was fulfilling his dream of a veg oil conversion.
One hour of misc labor and odd parts the car was running again.(bad fuel hoses, misc wiring).
From there he built the Conversion system himself.
He made a coolant heated chamber for the oil(the actual name eludes me), he made a duel fuel system for diesel start ups.
I wanted to take some pic's, but had no dig camera available.
The short of the long story is this:
Total cost for conversion: $350 misc parts.
Car: FREE
Milage: 50-60 MPG!!!!! Of Vegetable oil
Veg Oil: FREE
Diesel: One gallon a week if driven daily
Loss of power: Unknown but runs great
Reason for not doing this conversion?
You'd have to be insane to own a small diesel and to not do this. The almighty V-8 conversion has now left my consiousness. I am offically sold on the diesel conversion.
Now, who's got all those VW's sitting in their back yards???
