I just found what I really wish we could buy here in North America. Its a brand new Land Cruiser Pickup that I found when I was looking on the Australia Toyota site. Its got a 4.2L Turbo Diesel 5 speed tranny and diff lock front and rear. And its functional. With a snorkle. Heres a pic of it. I really wish that they would bring this thing to North America in left hand drive. If I had the money I would right out and buy it.

We really won't see a diesel pickup here in the US. The American economy and auto market is soley based upon a 5yr life cycle of price vs loan length. In other countries, auto's are looked at as a long term investment. Plus, U.S. consumers are brainwashed into thinking a) high HP=better b) diesels are dirty, noisy and expensive. Maybe Mercedes new WC(world class) line of diesels will change some minds, but that's too high of a price market to affect the 20-30k pickup buyers. I'd give up my 04 Taco gas/auto for a 4cyl diesel std in a second! I like the newer 2.7 motor, but I question longevity vs the 22RE. The 20/22r/e motors have a damn near running vs the chev 350. And look what GM did to that! GM has a near 18yr run of WORTHLESS smallblocks. Toyota just made its motors better and better. BUT, the 2.7 is a change for me. I trust it now, but what's going to happen and how's it going to run in 5yrs? As far the the LC Solid front axle? I think not. Toy dropped that yrs ago. From what I've seen of the U.S. LC, its a Tundra housing. (I corrected this, it said 8'' Tundra housing) Doesn't mean its a bad thing though! Stew

sometimes when looking at foreign sites I see all kinds of trucks and motorcycles that i wish that they would sell here. Like at work some of the models made that are getting shipped to other places we wish we could buy here. Some companies just don't think there are a market for these models here.

I just went and looked at the spec sheet a bit closer and it has rigid live axles front and rear coil spring in the front and leafs in the back. Here is the link to the site with all of the specs on it. lc78.toyota.com.au/toyota/vehicle/Specification/0,4668,1965_702,00.html If I had a bunch of money I would pay to import it even though it is right hand drive. ;D You will have to copy that link into the address bar as it wont let me keep the whole address in there.

Hey have any of you seen a Land cruiser pickup from the 60s or 70s in the States? I would love to get my hands on one of them. I'm studying geology in the Norwegian arctic at the moment, and a guide I know has one and it's wicked sweet. Looks like this:
