Ok i have some newb questions about the 22r and 22r-e engines. What does the '22' and 'R' and stand for in 22r and likewise with the 22r-e ? What is the difference in these engines? (Pros/Cons) Like i said, i know they are newb questions, but i couldnt find any sites to explain it.

I believe the 22-r is a carbed throttle body and the 22-re is a fuel injected throttle body. I believe those are the only difference in the engine. I've never actually had either one myself, just from what i've seen on forums over the years...

Well for some reason or other the 22 part stands for 2.4L I think because the 20R was a 2.2L and the 18R was a 2.0L. The 22RE stands for a 22R with fuel injection and the 22R is carburated. I really have no clue as to why the 22R is a 2.4L its just the way Toyota came up with the names for them from what I understand. The pros of the 22R are that it is a very simple motor and you dont need any fancy tools to diagnose it. It has no computer stuff on it and hardly any electronics. The 22RE is good because it automatically compensates for altitude changes and the like so that you dont need to tune it but only once. The computer does the rest for you. Thats about all I can say on those because I have only run the 22R and I can say that motor is an extremely tough motor. If they can take the beating me and my dad and grandpa do to them they are a great motor.
