I read the auction and "if" I were to go off of what they're saying I would have to say it's worth the $. If it actually cuts "1.5 steel @ 3" per min that is pretty danm good. Because that means it'll cut 3/16 and 1/4 like butter ;D I also like the fact that it has dual cooling fans but only if they have a larger cfm than a single fan. The warranty could be better but at the price I'm sure I could easily live with that. I'm gonna be watching these, I need one ;D

Yeah it sounds good, but I'd just hate to buy one and find out they're junk.
Having to pay the $140 shipping each time if something is wrong with it is what I don't like.

We have a spectrum 625 I think it is and it works very well. Cuts through 1/4 and 3/8 like nothing and does cut 1/2 decently but you are getting into torch range there. But for the thinner stuff it works perfectly. Much better than the old metal blade on the skil saw.

I have to agree with you on that point. That would def be a PITA. I'm still thinking on it though. ;D

Hey 82yota, Thanks for the info on the spectrum 625. It seemed like a good one and I've used some Miller equipment and like how they worked. I usually lean more toward the Lincoln company, but the Miller spectrum 625 just seemed to have more of what I wanted and a little better price.
Hey Hoodlum, Yeah it's a much nicer price and seems like really nice equipment, but I still hate paying for junk and then having to pay them more to fix what shouldn't have needed fixing. Looking at their feed back they've had this problem. I did email them about their return policy so I'll let you know what they say if/when I hear back from them.

The problem I have is I only have 2 major projects that this would be very useful. What kind of price range is the 625 going for?

I have wanted one for years but its just so hard to justify the money for something that is going to be used a few times and then collect dust. Of course like the welder, chop saw, oxy/acetelyn torch ect. when you need them they are damn nice to have.

Well for us it was either use a skil saw or mini grinder with a cut off disc on it and keep on buying a pile of blades for those or buy the plasma cutter once and be done with the other stuff. But we do other work that just work on the trucks too. Like we made a front to a houseboat once and used it for cutting the plate steel and also when we built a stainless boiler. It was nice for doing the long cuts. But if your not going to use it that much then you can do without. Or at least do with a bit smaller of a machine.

On this subject, does anyone know anything about a BluePoint (SnapOn brand) P.C. ?
What's it worth, are parts available, etc ?

Yeah I've done the grinder route for many years and still do now and then depending on the project. I have a Hypertherm Powermax30 plasma cutter, but been getting into having to cut some thicker steel and was just looking to get a new one that would handle it better.
On this subject, does anyone know anything about a BluePoint (SnapOn brand) P.C. ? What's it worth, are parts available, etc ? I've never seen or heard of a SnapOn brand plasma cutter. Are you looking to get one or just looking for parts? If parts then (I know it's not much) here's a link to a forum that might help you out. www.industrycommunity.com/myforum/steven_naber/messages/570.html Also try a search at snapon.com
Hope this helps.

The Spectrum 625 works really nicely for most everything we use it for. Its really handy with stainless as a regular torch wont cut the stuff. It works well and we use it quite a bit. Only thing we weren't impressed with is when we ordered the 50 foot torch cable it only came with a 20 foot ground. But thats about the only downside to it at all. Works very nicely and its not that often your cutting stuff over 3/8 and if you are you can usually use the torch. Cuts 1/8'' like butter.
