i have a 85 4runner (manualtrans) will a trans out of a 84 pup work, also are the axles the same???

The axles (F & R) are the same. The tranny will probably work in this situation.
The 84 p/u should be carbed and have a G52 5 spd connected to a forward shift t-case (t-case shifter is mounted to tailshaft housing at rear of tranny).
The 85 4Runner is probably EFI (22RE) and has a W56 5 spd and a top shift t-case (t-case shifter is on t-case).
The top shift t-case will bolt up to the G52 tranny, but you will have to make a plate to block off the now unused shifter hole on the tranny.
You couldn't do the opposite (bolt carbed t-case to EFI tranny), because the EFI tranny wouldn't have a spot for the shift rails to go into.

one more question is there any advantage gear wise to use transfer from 85 on the 84(carb)trans thanks for the info!!!

I'm pretty sure the ratios are the same for the 2 trannies. The EFI tranny is a little stronger than the carbed one.
