i heard that the best way to get mad flex out of a strait axle toy for farly cheap, i should go to a junk yard and pick up some two wheel drive rear chevy leafs (or 2wd mazda leaf) and mount them to my rear. and then get old jeep wagoneer leafs and mount them on the front. is this the best way to go? please help... thanx

There are a lot of possibilities, but it's hard to say what is best.
Rear - 2 or 4WD Chevy p/u rears, Mazda p/u rears, Ford Ranger rears, AP, AOR.
Front - Toyota rears, Wagoneers, Rancho 44044s (Waggy lift springs), YJ (stock or lift), AP, AOR.

iv never heard of toyota rear leafs on the front how does it work out.
i was talking to a friend and he said that instead of cuting and moving my front leaf braket on the rear to put chevy leafs on i could use the stock shackle from the chevy along with my 4" shackle and do a terra flex sort of setup that works. has anywone herd of this and if so how dos it do. thanx

Rears up front are pretty common on budget rigs. The rears will relocate the axle 1.5-2" foward of stock, and will likely require you to change to a cross over type steering set up with an IFS steering box. Some people build their own hybrid packs using a toy rear main leaf with an assortment of other leafs. This is really a time over money option because finding the right setup might take rebuilding the packs a few times. Yes, with the chevy rears it is common to weld on new front spring hangers and in the rear leave the toy shackles on and connect the chevy shackles to the toy shackles. Theory is that under normal driving conditions the toy shackle stays compressed against the frame leaving the chevy shackle to move normally. Off road it should allow massive droop when both shackle extend This set up is not with out problems. A lot of guys find the toy shackle just locks against the frame and does'nt move, or when it does move it allows so much body roll on down hills that it can be quite unstable. Basically it works well for ramp flex but not so much in the real world. Instead just remove your shackle mounts, move them back and use some long shackles.

I have an 85 TOY with new rear 56" Chevy for a 1/2 ton with the dual shackle setup. But to really make the leaf springs [shadow=red,left,300]FLEX[/shadow]you need to take off the top two leafs (the shortest two). I did go with the jeep spring up front but found them not good enough even after removing leafs from them. I now have a set of YJ 4.5" Rubicon Express springs and have no complaints so far. sean or any one... are there any sites that have good pics so i can see how it looks w/ the chevy leafs plus the 4" shackles on chevy springs?
