As you said, "any info would be useful".
How about telling us what the "different one" is. (Assuming you mean a different cab you want to swap on.)

I have an 86' sr5 x-tra cab 4 whel drive with a 22re and a 5- speed. I rolled it 2 years ago. It was not a complete roll though. It was just upside down. I bought a parts truck for a 100 and all that was good on it was the cab. it was really clean the only thing was it was an 85' 2-wheel drive cab. all I had to do was cut out the floorboard. no big deal. all I did was disconnect everything under the hood that could be left attatched to the chassie. then pulled out the seats carpet and then the dash and all the wiring that runs through the firewall. Once I had everything clear I pushed it under a tree and used a chain hoist and some of my jerk straps and lifted it off. rolled the chassie out of the way lifted up the new cab rolled the chaaie under neath it and lowered it down. mine is injected so yours should be a little easier. while you have the carpet out it would be a good idea to check out the floor boards. mine had a little rust so I cleaned it up and put plenty of paint on it. I hope this helps you out. It is going to take some time and patients just keep plugging away at it and soon you will be back wheelin in no time.

If you find any rust it would be a good idea to put some kind some sealer on it if you can find some cheap. I happened to have had some left over Rhino bedliner coating from one of my trucks that I rebuilt. I knew it had some rust (and a few small holes) in the floor board so clean it up, pacthed the holes and sprayed it with the Rhino Bedliner. It's been 7 years and I just checked it earlier today cuz of this tread......just to see how it was doing. It's still just like the day I did it.
You can still use paint, it's much cheaper. I would have if I didn't have the left over Rhino. If you do use paint I'd use something like Rust-oleum paint. And make sure to put it on with about 5 or 6 thin coats. Hope this helps!

As it says above, it depends how differnt the cabs are. If is a later model, you will likely have to change out the wiring harness. This takes time, but is not too hard. I know of a guy that sells good, used harnesses. He knows his stuff, so you won't get the wrong one either. His site is www.yotayard.comI bought an 85 carbed truck that had a wasted cab. My friend sold me an 87 efi cab, but the wiring was sort of hacked up for a v8 swap. I called this guy, he sold me everything I needed for the EFI swap, complete harness and all. I did it all in a weekend, with very little frustration. As for actually puttng on the new cab, I had 5 friends help me muscle it on and off. Theyre pretty heavy! Good luck, and much Patience!
