Hi, i am new to these boards and just got a 82 toyota pickup on thanksgiving. I had a few questions like
My truck needs a new paint job. Would it be possible to have the whole truck covered in rhino liner so that i would not have to worry about it? And if so how much would that cost?
Also i am 16 so of course i need a stereo. the stereo in the truck is built in and i dont think it can be removed. But there is a slot above the radio, it may possibly fir there. anyway if anyone knows what i am talking about and has had a CD player put in please tell me if you had it installed or fabricated the piece that holds it in.
Thanks for the answers

hey, well, as for your paintjob, if you were gonna get it coated in bedliner, i think i'd probably reccomend line-x instead of rhinoliner. rhino has more of a textured grippy surface, which would make it a pain to get all the mud and dirt and stuff completely washed outafter wheeling. whereas the line-x is a little smoother, so it'd be easier to clean. you can go to either www.rhinolinings.com or www.line-x.com and find the closest dealer to you, and they'll give you and estimate for what it would cost. and for the stereo situation, our toyotas (i've got an '80) came from the factory with what's called a 'shaft style' stereo, which means that it has a hole for the am/fm/cassette (or whatever you have) and a round hole on either side for the volume and tuning knobs. so it will come out, but i think you have to take the front dash panel off to get to it. the guy that had my truck before me took out the original stereo and put in a normal am/fm/cassette in it's place, and just had to cut a hole in the dash to fit the radio in. he also had to trim a little bit off the bottom right hand corner of the stereo face, to fit the contour of the panel. i'm kinda in the same spot as you, that i need a new stereo system (i just turned 17). but i'm not sure how to do it yet, cause i don't know if the hole in the dash is big enough to fit a standard cd player in (cause of the trimming the guy had to do on the one that's in my truck now). anyway, if you get something figured out, let me know, i'd like to see pictures/hear what you ended up doing. good luck! -DrumBum

My old truck was a 79 and it had a cd player. Trimming is involved, but you can do it. Pull out the old one (it does come out) and try to put in a new one. If it doesn't fit, and it probably wont, trim until it does. I also had an amp under the passanger seat and two 12 inch subs in custom boxes behind the seats. It can be done! ;D

Like everyone said before it will fit with modification. When I had my 82 the prev owner had to hack out one of the dash supports to the the player to work.

i got an 82 22r with a 4 inch lift and 33 inch thornbirds, i used to have 2 12's in the toolbox (theres no way to make them fit behind the seat, maybe under the seats) i had an amp and a nice system. (all stolen) but i cut the hole out for the deck to sit in, and it was sticking out like 1 inch too far, so i made a custom piece of plastic. Cut it out to the right length, heated it and bent it to fit over the bare part on the cd player. It was beautiful too...Also i wouldnt recommend bedliner for paint. It will look cool but be impossible to clean. If u really want a paintjob thatll last, get u some bulldozer paint, the really thick stuff, and mix it with some epoxy enamel. It will be so hard and so thick, a friend of mine used to paint cars for 100 bucks with the stuff. U cant beat it off with a hammer. Really tough, thats what im painting mine with when i get another job.

im not sure how people on here feel about TV's, but you could easily get a 5" or so TV for around 100 or less and put that where you all are cutting and chopping to put the cd player. a lot of the "headrest" tv's are comming with a "stand-style" mount now. with this stand you could either put a flat piece of plastic neatly over or behind the hole from the stereo that is in there to cover the hole, and then the mount can either be drilled or stuck on with that 3M tape that comes on it, or both..... or for a more custom look with just a little more hassle, you take a piece of plastic and make it neatly cover the hole from taking out the stereo thats already in there, and mount it securely, glue, super-tape, screws, whatever you can get away with and then drill a hole big enough for the shaft of the stand to fit through and then a hole just big enough for the wires to go into the dash.. but the stand should be attatched from behind the hole..... hence the more custom look, and these mounts can be adjusted for viewing pleasure. then there are stereo boxes that are made for older cars that do not have the removable stereo's, and you can put the stereo in this box and the box mounts under the dash facing out(similiar to mounting gauges), or if you wanted to be sneaky or something you could put it under the seat, or in the glove box( if you have room in there).... but then you have to be tall or get a stereo with a remote. for an example of the stereo box thing you can find one @ "www.vwinnovations.com" under "stereo/gauge holders" which is in the bug/super beetle section and a FM modulator for the sound for the TV is on ebay for like 30 bucks to connect sound to your TV, and the source of video is up to you, game system, TV channel, DVD, VCR, camera in tail gate, etc. etc. leaving the possibilities open. -BeNĀ² sorry so long of a post, but my dad has an aftermarket tape deck that was cut on the bottom right corner to fit as well, and this was an idea to fix that problem if i keep my TV from my present car....i need the truck so i wont get so many speeding tickets.

Why would you want to install a 5" TV in your rig when you can put a 68" TV in w/o mods. LOL ;D
BTW There's no problem with the ramblin' as long as you have something good to talk about.
