I'm planning on swaping a ford 302 into my 85 toyota and I was wondering how hard it would be to get it to pass california smog. What year would be the best to go with? I know it should be the same year of the truck or newer but I can't decide on a year. My main problem is that I don't know if it will pass the smog inspection. I decided on the ford because it's narrower and the distributor is on the front so no firewall modification. If you guys could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I guess what year will depend on if you are looking for EFI or not. The easiest swap would be a 85-86 carbed version.

;D As I don't live in CA., I really don't know their rules. I do know they're strict. You really need to check what's legal first. For the time, effort & $$, I personally wouldn't do anything but an EFI swap. The 302's have major aftermarket support & are CHEAP!! Later...
