anyway since you want it to be like a runner ive seen thos things that you put between the canopy and the cab so you can take out the window...that way at least you could talk to the people back there.

Since none of us really ever answered your question, I will:
You'd have to do something like the conversion Winnebago did to the pickups in 82 and 83 and marketed thru Toyota dealers as the Treker, the precursor to the 4Runner.
Basically, they chopped out the back wall of the cab and put a fiberglass bed and cap on. I forget what they did to the cab to maintain structural integrity.

Hey Nick, there's TONS of after market stuff for your truck, don't worry about it. check out Northwest Offroad, they're toyota specialists. Check them out at www.northwestoffroad.com and order thier catalog, you wont regret it. they have the best headers you can get for your truck, most headers are four pipes into one pipe, these are four into two into one. Up to 12% more power over any four into one header, and 25% over stock manifold. They have carbs, engine swap stuff, suspension lifts engine mods, lockers, diffs, bumbers, lights, service parts, and tons of other stuff, all for your toyota. I have an 81 and the only thing I had trouble finding for it so far was a throttle cable, which I did find.

Hey, thanx for the info.
I think I found the headers Im gonna buy, but after overhauling my carb i cant get the darned thing to run, it starts but runs like crap. The air/fuel screw is set properly, float is set properly, vaccum advance is on, accelorator pump is set properly. Yet it hesitates when you give it gas and it loads up?? Any ideas??

Ive been messing with the float adjustment but somethings wierd. It will sit there and idle fine and fuel will be in the right level, then it will go WAY up and sit there, then WAY down and sit there, then back to normal. It idles fine, i drive it then come back and it idles like its loaded up then dies...
any suggestions?

Had the same problem. It ended up wearing out my relatively new DOA motor. Swap over to one of the street legal Weber 32/36 models. Ive had VERY good luck with it.

WOW if don't see very many people with engines like that (DOA, LC Engineerning), looks good, but how much did that set you back?

For the stereo question, i replaced the bench with buckets and replaced the console with a tuffy one and mounted the stereo in there, leaving the other as a dummy. Maybe it could also be mounted in the glovebox? I love you blue truck, it looks just like mine, except without the topper!

I would like to add to all of the great comments that The 5 bucks for the Downey catalog is worth every penny. They talk about engine swaps and they have probably the best selection of 1st gen toyota aftermarket parts. I have an 83 short with 4 inch suspension/2 inch body and lots of work to do. the website for Downey is Downeyoffroad.com
