Help! I just got an 82 toyota 4x4 pickup 4 days ago. I tried to engage the 4 wheel drive, but only two wheels were spinning. Now get this, when shifted into H2, it acts as if it is in neutral and no tires spin. The truck will only drive in H4 and L4, but only 2 wheel drive. I have no idea what to do. Could it be that the differential fluid is low? Please help me. It has locking hubs. Thanks

When you're in 4H or 4L I'm guessing it's the front wheels that spin and not the rear, correct? If so your problems in the t-case.

Its the opposite, When i'm in 4H or 4L, the rear wheels spin, not the front. Would this still be the transfer case?

Ok, so the rear wheels spin in 4H/4L, and nothing spins in 2H? Are your hubs locked? Does the front DS spin in 4H/4L? Are you sure your getting the shifter all the way into 2H? Is truck up on jacks stands when you're trying this? The more details you give the better chance someone has of figuring it out for you.

Yes, the rear wheels spin in 4H/4L, and nothing spins in 2H. My hubs are locked. The front drive shaft does not spin in 4H or 4L. I am positive the shifter is all the way into 2H and the truck is not on jack stands.

It's gotta be the t-case.
There's 2 rails inside that get moved by the shifter. One shifts between 2WD and 4WD. The other is H-N-L. Something is screwy in that area I would think.
