I have been looking into getting a new engine for my truck. I have noticed that places have the option of 22r (before 1985) and 22r (1985-1995) My truck is a september 1984 model with a title claiming its a 85.. How would I go about determining which engine I have? or would it even matter if I was getting a complete new engine?
Also... I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages of having a long block or short block are.
Thank you for any help you are able to give me.

i dont know about the engine yr thing (i doubt it matters if your replacing it) but the long block is like an engine with a cylinder head and a short block is just a bottom end.so if you wanna keep your head then i guess you should find out what yr motor you need...but if you get a long block i doubt it matters...im no expert tho im just drunk.

8/84+ is the "new" 22R, 7/84 and back is the "old" 22R.
