ok I have a 80 4x4 long bed with the stock 4 speed and engine, I also have a 88 2wd parts truck with a fully rebuilt tranny, I know the 88 tranny will bolt up to the 20R block but will I have any problems bolting the 2wd tranny to the transfercase?

i think this was asked a long while back and if i remember right it will not. the reason is while the bell housing are the same the output shaft going into the tcase isnt. it has less splines, because it doesnt need to be as strong as a 4wd.
i am about %70 sure on this.

I'm 100% sure.
The 2WD tranny will not work.
I did a side-by-side comparison.
Also a 2WD steering box, while very similar to a 4WD IFS box, will not work for x-over steering, it is too light duty.
