Before I got the truck I had planned on going with a lightly done up 302 from a mustang. But after reading more bout the swap sounds like a bit more than a weekend project. My truck is my daily driver so I need and easy swap so i can actualy drive on the highways lol. I was thinkin 4.3 th350 swap but after reading how much easier the 3.8L swap was I thought Id ask what seems to be the easiest to possible accomplish in 3 nights and 2days. Having all parts (like that ever happens lol) and no issue with frozen/ stripped bolts *rol eyes* lol My truck is an 84 22r 5spd. Thanks for any help

Also any links to any and all info on any motor swaps would be great. That way I can see what all is involved and maybe still do a V8 swap. Yeah I like power and this is the SLOWEST vehicle I've ever owned, have to change that.

theres links all over google, on the links page, and looking at old threads a few pages back... i think i asked a similar question. I decided against an engine swap because on my dads 72' 402 chevy the gas milage is horrible, like most big block engines. if you don't mind paying 2$ a gallon every 12 miles then go for it. as for me, i like the dependablity/MPG of the 22RE and there is a huge aftermarket for this engine(why not bolt up a supercharger to your eninge? costs less then a swap). a stock 22RE can handle itself really well. there is also the issue of breakage since toyota was not desinged for the low end torque of the V8, this can be overcome, but it will cost ya. so price is another issue. then you have the downtime while you swap motors, if you have other means to get around then this is not a big deal. i needed mine to get to school, so a long time in my garage was not so good. If i decided to go with a swap i would probably go with the supra engine, as this will throw you back in your seat, and is the easiest to drop in. my thinking is if your gonna do this swap then don't half ass it, take the time (probably more then 3 days, 2 nights and more like 2-3 weeks)...or a buy different truck. i ended up rebuilding my 22re, cleaning the intake plenum, new plugs, new cam, K&N, header, bored throttle body, and such...i should have it done next week. heres everything i had on conversions... www.downeyoff-road.com/index.htmlorder a catolgue from both downey and NWOR, lots of info www.northwestoffroad.com/www.mindspring.com/~jayk3/toyota/swaps.htmwww.v8conversions.com/heres the supra swap www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/supra/members.ozemail.com.au/~jonhel5/www.off-road.com/toyota/features/feb2000/index.htmland if your interested, this is the supercharger which i'll probably do at some point. www.lcengineering.com/Whatsnew.htmi have some good links for engine rebuild, and aftermarket parts as well. i thought this would be plenty of info/typing for now. good luck with what you decide:-*

I don't think building the 22r will do what I want to do. It;s a good little motor and all but when you have to hold it to the rug in 4th to hold 60mph on a hill its no good. That and the gas milage isn't the greatest when this is done. Just need a lil more power on the hills. Would love to have lots of power but that isn't what I need. If a full motor swap can be done on en import with full wiring harness swap can be done in 3 nights and 2 days I'm sure a carburated set up can be swapped that quick. Only major project should be the motor mounts. Other than that it should be fairly easy, if the right swap is chosen. Or so I hope lol

i dunno man, i would check the supercharger out. it should be plenty of power for hills, and would only take a day or so to bolt up. stock 22RE's run somewhere around 116HP and 22R's 87HP. if you bolted the LCE supercharger on you would get another 65HP, then add another 35HP with headers, cam, etc...now you lookin at a pretty decent output. just a thought...? of course you could only say you have a supercharger on your rig...not a dropped v8...

I was considering the 3.4l swap, but more and more I am leaning towards a propane powered V8. My biggest issue with that will be what tranny/transfer to go with it. The stock Toy stuff just won't be strong enough IMO so I am thinking a np435 with an atlas.
