I am in the process of looking for a solid axle toyota pickup ('79-'85) and I am just wondering how much lift will I need to clear 35's? Thanks.

It depends on the year. The 79-83 trucks have larger wheel openings so it would be easier to fit 35s A 4 inch lift will clear if your not going to be articulating but I would add a 2 inch body lift for good clearance. If you don't like body lifts go with a 5 or 6 inch suspention lift. Minor fender triming will be needed to keep the meats from rubbin up on everything. Hope that helps.

I guess it all depends on how much you're gonna be flexing your rig, and how much 'bodywork' (hacking the fenders) you're willing to do. I've got an '80 4x4 that i'll be putting 35's on shortly, and i'm planning on a 4 inch suspension lift and trimming the fenders so it doesn't rub. There's also a chart somewhere that somebody posted that tells how much lift you need for what size tires and what year truck, and the recommended gear ratio too, i think. not sure where, might look in the FAQ section

I would run a total suspension lift as I don't like body lifts. My '85 has a 4 inch spring lift and then I added revolver-type 2 inch shackles for more articulation, especially when the sway bar is unhooked. A 6 inch lift with some agressive 35's look tight! No trimming is required and people don't tailgate anymore unless they want to eat a double-tube Smittybuilt. That's just how I built mine.
