i was just wondering if 88-98 (63") chevy springs or any other springs could be used to swap out 83 toy FRONT spings? I know these can be swaped for the stock rear springs, but what about the front?

Given how long they are and how close to centre the locating pins are you would end up with just about the worst approach angle ever not to mention the nightmare of setting up the mounts and steering.

what if you redrilled holes for the center pins

what if you redrilled holes for the center pins Maybe I guess, but then your pinion would be pointing at the ground and your caster would be terrible. Altogether I would say it is not a good plan. People aren't using the chevys because they are the best spring out there, they use them because they flex well due to their length, are cheap and lots of other people have already done it. I run Chevy's in the rear of my 4runner but would love to have an expensive aftermarket soft lift spring instead. Just couldn't budget it when I did the lift. If you are looking to run a rear spring up front, start with the toyota rear main leaf and build a custom pack from whatever you want.

what if you redrilled holes for the center pins Not a good idea, it weakens the spring, leading to eventual breakage there. Back to the original question - 63" springs are impractical. For one thing, you'd have to extend the frame forward about a foot in front of the truck just to mount hangers. You'd end up with no approach angle and a whole lot of other issues. As mentioned, you'd be a lot better off building leaf packs based on Toyota rears, which are a few inches longer than the fronts. You can not use a stock rear pack, leaves MUST be added. My fronts were built from 4 pr of Toy 2WD p/u rears, 6 leaves ea, and are still way soft and flexy. Plus they move the axle 2" forward.
