:(i just finished installing my freshly rebuilt 22re and it runs like crap. i am getting a code for the knock control sensor but like everybody else , i can't find it. i read the haynes manual, read some old posts and searched the internet, no luck. is it on the block or on the efi unit? what does it look like? i think i must have left it off the motor. its an 85. i do have one piece left over but i thought it was a temp sending unit, has threads on one end . looks like a large nut in the middle with a single blade plug on the other end. if this is it , where should i look to reinstall it.? any help would be appreciated.

That's it. And that's why your engine is running like crap.
It goes on the right hand side of the engine block, about 6" in front of the starter. When you install it, make sure that it is very tight. The knock sensor is a crystal. When it is vibrated at a specific frequence it generates a voltage to let the ECU know that the engine is knocking. If it is not tight to the block, it cannot detect the vibrations from knocking.

yeah that was it. the guy at the toyota dealer showed me what hole it came out of and now it runs like a champ. when we pulled the motor to take it to the machine shop my dad assisted with the disassemble and i had no idea what that part was or where it went. thanks.
