No im not jumping into anything right now. Im plan to do this on a '88 V6 Runner. Im planing ahead i know the D44 pumpkin is on the driver side and well my driveshaft output is on the passenger, see i plan to have a ford drivetrain inthe future. 5.0 HO engine, not sure of the tranny but i know its gonna be automatic, and a np205 and well the D44front and 9" rear. That is why i guess im being so stubbern about the D44. I plan to leave them at full width cause i wanna run 44 boggers so that will help me run more stable so's not to flip over so quickly(lol). Thanks alot Dennis

OK Now that I have heard the skippy on your future build up. Go with the C6 automatic and NP205 combo. They came in a lot of older Ford F-250's. Some will be married and some will be divorced. The 9inch can be built up to handle the 44 boggers, but you better research the housing and carrier that you have. They made weak and strong ones. Nodular housings were stronger and usually stamped with an N to identify that. Carrier spec's vary a great deal. Some were not true 9 inch carriers 8.5 but called 9 inch. You will have to have a 31 or 35 spline carrier and axles to handle to abuse of a v8 in conjunction with 44 boggers. Currie 4340 axles are awesome and do very well. Price is justified by their performance. As far as the 44 high pinion is concerned, I dont think you can build it strong enough to handle the 44 boggers. 35's or 38's with good driving sense you will do good. But 44's will kill the outers in short time. Best way to handle that size tire is Dana 60 front, 14 Bolt, dana 70, or sterling 10.25 rear. They are better matched for 44's. Good Luck Rgds, Dennis DEEZKNUTZ OFFROAD

I would say that all depends on which "old chevy" axle you mean.
