I need some ideas! The crank bolt on my 85 4runner will not come out for the life of me. I have tried binding the top time gear to impacting. I have even tried heating up the bolt. Any ideas will help! Thanks mud!

Try putting a breaker bar on it and let the breaker bar rest against the drivers side frame rail and crank the motor over without the coil wire plugged in. It's always worked on my truck. We did get it out one time with the impact but we had to hold the blow off valve on the compressor shut so it could build 175 psi pressure. The breaker bar against the frame should work though. It's worked 3 times on mine so far.

well i got it off thank GOD!. after i broke the timing chain (oops)! i pulled the head off and made a plate (3/16 stainless) to put over the #1 piston. i put the piston about half way up on it's stroke then put a piece of 2x4 to fit flush with the deck and bolted the plate down. it took about 3 1/2 feet of breaker bar and a lot of force to break the bolt loose. my dad suggested to do this. thank GOD for old timers! later mud!

Oh that was one stubborn crank bolt. I just remembered now and I know its too late but I've heard you can pull the number one plug out and shove that cyl full of small dia rope as well. Sorry I never remembered that earlier. I feel bad that I forgot about that.

i don't know why that thing was stubborn. i know i replaced the oil pump seal since I've owned it. so i know i have had the bolt off before. when i put the bolts back in i get the thing hand tight then hit it one or two times with a dead blow hammer on the ratchet. heck i don't even hit it hard. this time i will put some anti-seize on the threads. well a two day job turns in to a two weekend job. well it's just my luck. shoot the truck has been down for a head gasket for to years plus. it still ran good just drinks water like a fish and has a broken exhaust stud that broke 3 easy outs trying to get out. well thanks 82yota! later! mud
