I am thinking o having my local shop swap a stock 350 into my 79 toyota, the truck is completely stock, and I am curious to know what all has to be done to do this? Can my stock 4 speed handle the power of a stock 350? can my stock axels handle it? What all is involved, other then Motor mounts and an adapter for the bell housing? I also have a th350 tranny if my stock 4 speed can't handle it. any input is awesome. pics would be cool to thanks Josh

yea and if you're worried about gas milage put in a late model 700r4 tranny, having overdrive is always nice.

No the stk 4 spd won't handle it. The early trannys are weak. Later ones won't really handle it well either.
TH350 or 700R4 would def be better
Stock axles may be OK depending on what you're doing with the truck. They can always be beefed up.
There's quite bit involved. Check Advance Adapters site for info and adapters to do the swap.

I knew to get my adapter through AA, and I figured that my stock tranny wouldn't work. I was trying to find out if there are fire wall clearance issues, or anything of that nature. I have all the chevy parts, I could just swap in the whole drive train if I needed to. Of course that is more that I will have to pay the shop, I would do the work myself but I am still in Iraq and won't be home until OCT...

i have one just a only trail rig with sbc350/th350/np205 do some research on it before you do it i bought mine with it already in (the truck is currently down to the frame, they did it all wrong) and i am doing it over again you can buy motor mounts and adapter but i like that mine is all chevy, check northwestoffroad.com they have some part as does aloot of other places, as for the axel, i am running a lock-rite in the rear and open front, stock 4.11 gears and 35x14.5 Super swampers, you will be fine unless you overly abuse your truck.

I have already bought the motor mounts to do the swap, and will be goingwith a TH350 tranny, but I haven;t decided if I want to use my gm t-case. I have a 203 and a 205 to choose from, it's just a matter of choosing. the only way that I will do the swap is if I can do it right. I am not a big fan of hack jobs. I have read up on it a little and I am trying to figure out if I can do it without the body lift.

For the transfercase, why not run them both? If your not interested in having a doubler setup, go with the 205.

I am not interested in the doubler because I have no need to go that slow... I know that the 205 is alot stronger then the 203, but the 203 is geared lower, and has the kit in it for 2- low wich is a nice touch... I have awhile to think about it, and since I have both, niether one is going anyone anytime soon so we'll see..
I have noticed more then one thread posted asking about the 350 swap, and there is a post in the FAQ's board, but very few answers in it (I read it before I posted). Why dosne't the admin make this a sticky, or something.. There seems to be alot of interest, and now where to get the answers other then re-posting.
