Last November I purchased a 1982 Toyota Pickup 4X4 for a price of $50. The truck has a 20R motor, had a 4 speed tranny, stock t-case, stock axles, suspension is stock, and 33" tires.
Now, 6 months later I finally got the time to actually start the project. In the last two days, I have done the following. Cut out and replaced floor boards in the cab, taken out the dash and have built new one out of Aluminum diamond Plate. Taken the tranny out and am prepping a 5 speed to go back in it. Built a hi-steer kit for the front end. Pulled the motor and torn it down and gotten it ready for rebuild. Pulled the radiator and am now in the process of relocating it into the rearend. Pulled out and began construction on a tubed tailgate. Trimmed front fenders, and replaced existing grill and lights with grill and lights from another 1979 Toyota truck. Now I am just waiting on parts. I am waiting on a set of gauges from Auto-Zone and a rebuild and timing kit also from auto-zone.
Gauges: I am going all out. It will have a tach, oil pressure, temp, coolant pressure, temp, air temp, air-fuel ratio gauge, wattmeter, ammeter, voltmeter, tranny temp, t-case temp, diff temp, and steering temp.
I am also waiting on coolers for it. I am putting an engine oil cooler and steering oil cooler in it. Since it is a manual tranny I won't need an oil cooler for the trans, will I? Same for T-case and pumpkins, I think?
I did treadplate for the floorboards in the cab and am getting ready to start making a console out of aluminum diamond plate. I am gonna kinda sin on this one: Jeep Seats... in a toyota
Next I will tear the axles out and start on those. I am gonna do ARB's front and rear, 5.29 gears, homemade chromo axle shafts, rear disks, Fox racing shocks, stock leaf springs (of course I am gonna pull them out and touch them up a bit, they are pretty rusty), of course a touch of paint and the axles will be done.
Next comes t-case, since i have a t-case out of another '87 I am gonna do a dual transfer case from all-pro with 4.7 low ranges in both cases. I am also gonna do homemade drivelines out of 3 1/2" square tube.
Lastly but most important: 37X12.50X15 Trxus M/T's on 15X10 white spoke rims. Sounds like a project huh?
