my 4Runner build-up thread, Budget build

So I figured I'd do a kind of progress build up thread of my 4runner.


thats how it sat last summer, turbo charged and failing emissions like crazy. So I decided it was time for a new engine and a fresh start.

Well it sat for 7 months and i finally got a new engine.




so now i have a new engine, time for some road friendly tires.

Found these brand new wrangler MTR's on craigslist with wheels for $800 not too shabby.

but with bigger tires comes better gears and lockers.



got me some 3rds from Marlin, 5:29 gears, lockright in front and detroit in back.



rear installed.



then the front. I've been driving with this set-up for a couple weeks now and am really liking it. I have yet to take this truck offroad but should be doing some runs in the next couple weeks. I know its not really anything new but I'm happy with it, I've wanted a capable 4Runner for many yrs and now have one. The next step is crossover steering and sliders. I also got a marlin rear bumper but dont have any pics of it yet. I'll keep this updated if anyone is interested

Hey man. I have been looking at getting gears for my 85 ex cab truck. I would like the same setup as you but 5.29 gears. If you don't mind pm me what they ran you. Thanks man.

i got my rear bumper on last week. its a marlin bumper. it looks pretty good and is very sturdy.

i love the body style of the old 4runners. really like the bumper,i got from your plates that your from washington, thats sucks about the emissions thing. in VT, ony cars with EBD2 have to deal with emmisions. But, yeah, really nice build like it alot! Is that one of the runners with back seats or just a bed?

it use to have back seats, i sold them with a different 4runner i had (mistake) and as for a soft top, i wish. find me one for a decent price that looks good maybe.
