My rear pinion seal is leaking. I was thinking that I can change it without taking out the third member. I would just have to put a new crush sleeve in it and re-torque it down, or could I just change the seal and leave the sleeve alone???

I have replaced the seal and just retorqued w/no problems. YMMV

I plan on doing my rear and front seals soon as they are both leaking in my old beast and I'm just going to loosen the nut off change the seal then put it back together and hope it works. I don't see a reason why it would not because you are not crushing anything anymore than at already was to start with. Your just tightening it back up again.
