hey guys, I'v e got a 86 toyota with 22re and my auto trani is screwing up. I found on this website autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl153g.htm that if I conect the TE1 and the E1 terminals, that my "overdive off" light with flash out my error codes, but the problem is that I don't have a diagnostic code box. I've looked on both the passneger and drvers side of the engine compartment, and all arounf inbetween. does anyone know where else it could be hiding, or is it posible to not have one all together? please help. thanx mock1

I have an 85. It should be the same on yours. You may not be looking for a box. Instead try looking on the inside of your drivers side fender (under you hood). You should notice two electrical plugs that are just plugged into rubber boots (for protection) on the side panel. Pull the smaller of the two (they should both be yellow). If you look at the connection there should be two slots kind of like that on your wall outlet. You do not need a diagnostic tool. You can get a piece of jumper wire and just stick each end in the slots. Your check engine light will blink the code.
Make sure before you do this that your engine is warmed up. Once warmed up you can turn your truck off and just turn the ignition on. Make sure that your AC etc is off because that will cause it to blink a code also. Hope this helps. If you have the Chilton manual for your truck it will also explain how to do this and will have a list of codes. Or you can go to your nearest Checkers, Shucks etc and pick up the OBDII code reader for $30 which comes with instructions on how to perform the test and read the codes. Its really not very difficult though.

hey thanx alot man, I'll be sure to try that tomorrow. I would now, but I got to my jobsite a little early today, and started tinkering around with those, and the overdrive off light, and after work I tried starting it up, and it would turn over like it wasnt getting fuel. I had plenty of charge, and I was getting spark, but no fuel. I open that valve as someone tried starting my runner, and no gas came out. I think something I had done might have trigered the fuel pump to stay on while the key was in the on postition and it wont pump anymore. I noticed a 15amp fuse was blown in the drivers kik panel fuse box, so I replacd it and then unconnected the battery to maybe reboot the system and still no go on the pump. I'm getting power to my fuel tank gauge, but not to the pump. do you know why or how I could've done this. thatx for all the help mock1

check the raly, if you left the key or some other way the power source stayed to the fuel pump it may have burnt up the relay..
