hey guys, I'm still stumped on my not starting issue. I've hotwired my fuel pump to turn on when the key is is the on position, because(I think) I blew the relay for it. So now I know I'm getting fuel, and I know I'm getting spark. so now I've come to the conclusion that my mass air flow meter is fouling up. when I crank on the starter, the motor cranks hard with a minor sputter like it's getting fuel and only a minimum of air. I've looked at the wireing diagram in my chiton on page 6-57 and I saw that the fuel pump relay has two power sources, 1 coming from the ignition, and the other from the green wire off the mass air meter. so do you know a a fuse or a relay for the mass air flow meter? if you have a chiltons, and feel like helping a guy in need, it's the top diagram on 6-57. what's weire is that hotwireing the fuel pump worked for two days, but now this happen. I pulled the plug off the air meter, and tested to see if any of the terminals had power, and none did. I woder if that's normal? If I don't get this figured out soon, I've gotta put it on a trailer, borrow another truck and drive it to the nearest dealership 1.5hours away. I really don't want to do that. please help if you can. mock1

this might be a long shot but it happened to me, the flapper thing inside the AFM got stuck closed so no air could get through luckily i had an extra and i replaced it.

ok quick way to diagnose the AFM. unplug it and see if it'll start. DO NOT PUSH THE GAS. it will die if you try to give it gas but it will idle like a champ unplugged if thats the issue.

ok guys. I'm sad to say but I'm still trying to figure out this problem. things I've checked that are GOOD 1. fuel (but only because I've hotwired the pump to a 12v source in the cab) 2. spark 3. plenty of cranking amps 4. the two relays in drivers side kick panel(round silver 3 pronged, and round silver 4 prong) 5. the relay behind the glove box to the left(black square 5 prong) 6. all the fuses and relays under the hood in the L-shaped fuse/relay box. Things I've cheked that are NOT good 1. EFI curcuit fuse(15amp bottom left slot on kick panel fuse box) Replaced with new fuse. 2. Fuel preasure(I've hotwired this to a 12v in the cab so now I have fuel) Symptoms cranks over trying to start. sputering but no real start up or idle. Makes no difference if I unplug the Air Flow Meter. Questions. does anyone have an exact location for the Main relay, and the Curcuit Open relay? pictures would be AWESOME. here's a diagram thanks to 4crawler.com

hey guys, thank you so much for your help along the way. I've got good news... My 4runner is running.
after fiding my main relay and curcuit open relay, I took them apart and tested them to make sure they were goo and then reinstalled them. once I did this, the fuel pump was getting power again, so everything in the system seemed to be good except for the AFM
so I took my AFM to a mechanic that had a working one, and I used my Ohm meter to see if they were the same. they were. so I then asked him what he thinks it might be and he gave me two ideas that were dead on the money.
1. check the wireing cluster by the battery that houses the point where the four injector wires turn into two wires. he said that due to the scoop of the wires, that they get wet and corode and in turrn break if flexed. sure enough two were broke off.
2. due to the two weeks of trying to start, all tha unburned fuel could have fuel-fouled my plugs.
so after I re-spliced and crimped the injector wires, and installed new sprkplugs and wires. the beast fires up immidiatly and soomth. I'm rolling again for the first time in almost 3weeks, and man does it feel good. thanx for all your help and words of wisdom.
conclusion I don't know why my fuelpump lost power in the first place, but I think that all the power being costantly supplied to it caused the CO relay to get hot, andlock up, it turn blowing the fuse. once this happen, I thinkI must have broke the injectors wires while tring to solve the problem under the hood. after the many attempts to start it, the excess fuel fouled the plugs resulting in a complicated multiproblem mess that almost beat me. thanx for all your help. hopefully I'll only have toanswer problems for awhile.
