My 84 22r truck runs great besides its a little cold blooded, and it has a flat spot about 1,500 rpm,s above and below its fine. I dont notice it in 4th and 5th. But in the first three gears its really noticible. Should I notice the second barrel kick in to. I have had 4 barrels but not a 2 barrel before. Any thoughts. I rebuilt the carb and besides the flat spot it runs great.

On a weber I would attribute this to jetting issues, but I am assuming you have a factory carb which should already be set up correctly. Perhaps it is normal for the truck? Mine has the same kind of flat spot but I am in the process of changing out jets and air correctors until I find a setup that will allow smooth progression from the primary to the opening of the secondary, I am going to start with a slightly bigger secondary idle jet.

Just switched out to bigger air correctors, problem solved! Mine was running rich at the point the secondary opened, by switching out to a bigger air corrector I leaned out the mixture as the carb went thru probably 2/3 of the primary cycle when it would engage the secondary. I would've tried a bigger secondary idle jet but I was already using the biggest one I had. Anyone else have more experience with the factory carb? I know the factory carb can be tapped to use holley jets for more flexability, never tried it but I have read about it.

I dont think its normal, it should transition smoothly. I dont feel the secondary kick in. WHen my accelerator pump wasnt working i could feel it. I need to take the carb off again this weekend and check it out.

Figured it out finally. My secondary wasnt opening. I took the top off the carb everything looked clean. Blew some air thew all the passages just to make sure, and i was fiddeling with the throttle linkage and noticed the secondary wasnt opening. Sprayed it down worked the linkage a little and now it runs great. No more flat spot and it has a lot more power and isnt so cold blooded.
