Anyone ever welded a toy front end with the stock birfields? I dont play in the rocks because I dont have the gearing and cant afford cromolies, I know about the driving in the snow and ice and turning and all that. I just want to know how the axles will hold up to just the trails. I have been wheeling the same open front end for about 3 years now with the 35's and havnt broken anything yet, besides the stock front shackels but those are long gone.

Thats what I figured yu guys would say. I was just thinking about it, but was kind of wary. I beat the crap out of my IFS and never broke a shaft but was lucky. Now I dont have to get on it as hard. I just crawl around the trails.

How long have you had it welded? Does your rig see a lot of rocks? If my truck was strictly off road I would weld it. But I cant pull a trailer with my other toyota.

I have been running a welded front for about a year. I put in chormo longs after grenading a birf while trying to climb a hill in the snow. I made it to the top but when i hit the snow bank the birf shattered like glass. It probably didnt help that it was -40 out. Running the longs i have had no birfield woes. Instead now the weak link is the hubs. Again in the snow while trying to reverse out of a snow covered field I blew the hub clean off, shearing the 6 hub bolts and the dowel. But man when it aint broke it climbs like a billy goat. Im not complaining, carnage is all part of wheeling. I break something every other time i go out. I actually break more parts in the winter then i do rock crawling in the summer. The greater wheel speed required for snow driving is hell on parts.

But I cant pull a trailer with my other toyota. i have had it welded for about 5 months, and rocks is all it ever sees. and it is also my daily driver. so far nothing has broken and i am happy.

Welding doesn't affect daily driving unless the front axle is engaged, correct?

Welded the front of mine. Run 33x13.5's. It has 4 or 5 wheelin trips on it, combination of mud, dirt, rocks. No breaks yet, but birfs are getting a little noisy. I wouldn't go back though, I like the extra traction. I'll just get longs when I break one.
