hey all, i have an 85 runner that i have pretty well modified, but i just got a hell of a deal on an 87 ext. cab and i am going to swap some things out, depending on the outcome of this post. first thing is first. my runner has chevy 63's in the rear, and skyjacker toyota rears up front, which are stiff as hell. First off i am wondering if it would be easier for me to swap bodies, and just take the 87 truck body and put it on the runner frame(is this possible?) or do an SAS on the 87, if either way, i wouldl like to swap out the front springs with somethin new, i have looked at allpro, and marlin springs, but if i dont need to spend the money than i would rather not, i already have to fork out 300 for the histeer kit. so that brings me to my next question, should i use wrangler or wagoneer springs??? are they worth the effort? my 22re in the runner is having an idle problem, it spits and sputters under 2000rpm, and i cant figure out what is wrong with it, it is very sluggish under a load, last time i wheeled it it got hot, but i pulled the thermostat and let it cool, i never let it get too hot in my mind, but nevertheless, it has never ran the same, and i have checked my compression, all cylinders are pushing between 160-180. any info would be great. thanks

The x-cab frame is a longer wheelbase frame than the Runner (shrt bed vs long bed), so a body swap would be hard.
Take the rear springs packs from the p/u, add in some leaves from the old Runner rear packs, and use those up front.

you could move the rear springs up on the runner and switch the bodies. You would loose your wheelbase, but depending on what you are planning to do with the truck, that could be a good or a bad thing.

So if I read it right you want to use the pickup body correct? I think swaping the xtra cab over to the short frame would be cool, seen a couple like that and they look slick when done right. Would probably have to fab up some mounts since they wouldnt all line up/be there. Then "bob" the front side of the bed to shorten it enought for the wheel well to line up, and might as well bob the back side of it while you are at it.....or go flatbed.... A sas would probably be easier though....

yes, i would like to put the ext. cab body on the runner frame, my wheelbase on the runner is 106", i extended it just a hair for better depart angle. i might just throw the ext cab cab on and flatbed it, all the cab mounts should be the same shouldnt they?

all the cab mounts should be the same shouldnt they? The front mounts should be the same.....not sure behind the doors. Just take out a tape measure and check!

The stretch on the wheelbase is from the crossmember under the back of the cab to the center of the arch in the frame over the rear wheels. All the front mounts are the same. The truck bed would work with some chopping.

So my plan so far is to swap the bodies, I am not going to use the truck be, i am goin to fab up a flatbed, even with my exo on the runner i still get body damage and it looks like shit, i know , i know, its a wheelin rig, its not supposed to be pleasing to the eye, but I dont like having every cop in the county stare at me when I drive 2 miles down the road to fill it up before a wheeling trip.
