ok so i have an 85 with 4.10's. I also have a dd 93 4runner with 4.88's. I also have a front ifs diff with 4.10's from an old wrecked truck of mine. I want to take the 4.88 rear from the runner and put it in the 85. Then replace the front of the runner with the other 4.10's from the wrecked truck. I would then have to either buy 4.88's or find another rear from a runner. I have a limited slip in the rear of the truck that i would like to put in the front of the truck and lock the rear. to keep the limited slip with the truck, the front 3rd would have to go into the 4runner for now and the rear go up front. I dont, however, want to go through the trouble of taking the front 3rd out and everything until i am ready to rebuild the front. Any thoughts? ? btw im selling the bed and a chrome bumper

Ok so if I read that right your 85 truck has 4:10's with a limited slip in the rear. You want to take the 4Runners rear diff. with 4:88's and stick it in your truck. Then put your front third member out of the 85 into the rear of the 4Runner. So your 4runner will become more of a pig and won't be able to be put in 4WD, and your 85 truck will have more power and not be able to go into 4WD. Why not just save up for 4:88's for your truck and not mess with the 4Runner, that seems easier to me.

That is kinda confusing, but the main thing is - do you realize the IFS front diff is not interchangeable with any of the other 3 diffs (85 F/R, 93 R) in your equation?

but it is interchangeable with the front ifs from the wrecked truck. But upon further inspection i saw that the rear brakes are somehow tied into the third on the runner and i think that its best to leave it alone. Also that will allow me to run 5.29's in the 85 anyway. How hard is it to set up geas anyways? Thanks guys.

IFS to IFS will work
That would be the ABS system.
It requires some specialized tools and a lot of experience to do it right.

maybe. it would suck to smoke a ring gear tho. usually when you bring just the 3rd member if they charge less. my old shop charged 125 bucks to set up the gears if you brought the stuff in. i have helped install gears and think i could do it but its not a place where i will cheap out on.
