It has been done but it is done in Land Cruisers mainly. If you are looking for a diesel a great one is the 3.0L toyota turbo diesel. Its the 1kz-te. It makes lots of power and is good on fuel and is very hard to kill. Its the motor I put in my 92 pickup. It hauls ass. And when cruising the highway at about 60mph it gives me 30mpg if I'm nice to it. Around town it is 22-24. And yes this is using the US mpg figures.

I thought about doing the 4bt and researched some. Those things are torquey. I had the opportunity to measure a 4b (less turbo) in a Case backhoe. the length, width and even height looked good but the bell housing worried me. Granted, the bell housing was for a hydraulic pump but a standard chevy trans bell housing would be similar in size. To fit it in a pickup, some serious rearranging of the firewall is in order or a body lift or both. The toyota diesel would be awesome but I imagine it would be far more expensive.

My brother put a 4bta in his Comanche. Try 4btswaps.com This is his build thread www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=585 He has "Crazy" knowlage on this kind of thing. If you or anyone you know ever talk to him you will understand what I mean about "Crazy". As you will see on his build thread, if you ask him a question you will get a very complete answere.

My diesel motor brought in from Japan was $3700. Got the motor, tranny, wiring harnesses and computer and all the related junk needed out of the donor vehicle to put it in. I just got done a 1100mile trip with it and it did not go through a drop of oil. Went up a few 7.5% grades that were up to 4 miles long and I just put the pedal down and up it went. No downshifting. I had about a 1500 pound load in the back as well as I moved home from school. Its a big step up from the R series.
